Lee McCune Braille Trail Opens for the Summer Season on Casper Mountain

CASPER, Wyo. — Summer 2026 — The Casper Mountain Lions Club is pleased to announce that the Lee McCune Braille Trail is now open for the 2026 summer season, welcoming visitors of all ages and abilities to experience one of Casper Mountain’s most unique outdoor destinations.

Nestled among towering pine trees and alongside the soothing sounds of Elkhorn Creek, the Lee McCune Braille Trail offers an opportunity to connect with nature through all the senses. Designed to be accessible for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, the trail also provides a meaningful and enjoyable experience for families, hikers, students, and visitors seeking a peaceful mountain retreat. The Braille Trail has long been recognized as a distinctive recreational and educational resource on Casper Mountain.

Visitors are encouraged to slow down and experience the mountain in a different way—listening to the flowing creek, feeling the textures of bark and stone, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and enjoying the sights and sounds of Wyoming’s beautiful outdoors.

“The Braille Trail is more than just a hiking trail,” said representatives of the Casper Mountain Lions Club. “It is a place where people can connect with nature, learn about accessibility, and appreciate the outdoors through all of their senses.”

Throughout the spring, volunteers worked to prepare the trail for the summer season, helping ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. The Casper Mountain Lions Club continues its commitment to maintaining and improving the trail so it remains accessible for future generations.

Guests are invited to sign the newly updated trail guestbook during their visit. Comments and stories help celebrate the trail’s impact and honor the legacy of Lee McCune. Donations are also appreciated and help support ongoing maintenance, safety improvements, and accessibility enhancements.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or returning to a favorite Casper Mountain destination, the Lee McCune Braille Trail offers a unique opportunity to experience Wyoming’s outdoors in a thoughtful and memorable way.

What an incredible morning at the Casper Mountain Lions Club Pancake Breakfast on Saturday!

We were honored to serve 529 adults and 40 kids this year — a tremendous increase from last year’s attendance of 387. The support from our community continues to amaze us, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who came out to enjoy breakfast, visit with friends, and support the Casper Mountain Lions Club's work.

Events like this are only possible because of the generosity, enthusiasm, and community spirit of so many people. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, helped spread the word, and supported our efforts. Your support helps us continue serving local youth and community projects, including the Braille Trail and other important Lions initiatives.

From all of us at the Casper Mountain Lions Club — thank you for making this year’s pancake breakfast such a tremendous success. We already look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Casper Mountain Lion Club Supports Annual Wyoming Rendezvous for Students with Visual Impairments
CASPER, WY —

Members of the Casper Mountain Lions Club, Hubert Townsend and G. Scott Novotny, spent time this past week volunteering at the Wyoming Rendezvous, a specialized event for students with visual impairments, their families, and primary caregivers.

The event was held on February 12, 2026, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm at the Casper Mountain Trail Center (Nordic Center). The event brought together a supportive community of teachers, school administrators, and service providers for a day of education, recreation, and connection for students attending.

A Day of Recreation and Resources

The Wyoming Rendezvous is designed to bridge the gap between outdoor recreation and access to essential resources for students with visual impairments. The event provided a unique opportunity for attendees to build a community among families and professionals navigating similar experiences.

Key highlights of the event included:

Accessible Recreation:

Students enjoyed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Casper Mountain, with family members and school staff present. To ensure accessibility for all, the event provided free ski rentals, snowshoes, sleds, and boots from Mountain Sports and Gannet Peak Sports.

Professional Support:

Consultants from WDE Vision Outreach Services and other partner agencies were on-site to answer questions and provide guidance. Sight-impaired games and activities were provided as alternatives for students who had enough of the mountain air and needed a break.

Education:

Parents and school staff received targeted guidance on the specific supports available for children with vision loss.

To further thank families and volunteers, a free lunch was provided to all attendees and support staff.

It was a very rewarding experience for Lions Hubert and Scott N, and we felt privileged to have had the opportunity to help out.
