During the spring/summer months we do storm spotting/chasing on a volunteer basis for the National Weather Service in Raleigh, NC

It’s been many years since we had a decent winter weather event in the Raleigh area and it looks like we’ll see something here in the next few hours.

I wanted to update everyone to say that late last year we sold the truck so we are no longer offering transportation services as we shift to another phase of our lives. We enjoyed helping the community and giving back in our own special way during past weather events. We wish everyone a safe journey and if you have to travel in these conditions, give yourself extra time and take it slow. There’s no prize for being fast in ice and snow. The prize is to arrive safely.

Due to prior conflicts, SWT will NOT be available for the snow/ice event expected this weekend/week. Please be safe out there and stay warm!

09/13/2018

We have already received several calls requesting transportation this weekend. We will try and accommodate everyone the best that we can given the circumstances. Unlike winter weather where road conditions can be a bit more predictable, a storm like this will prove challenging to keep on top of road closures and flooded areas. If you call or txt we will get back to you shortly!

As we bring this winter weather event to a close, here's a look at our final numbers. Beginning Saturday morning at 0349 operating until Monday night at 2030, we drove 562 miles over 19.8 hours safely transporting 19 passengers to and from their respective healthcare work locations. Special thanks to Al DeOrleans and Bob Brown for their willingness to transport people that we could not accommodate within our schedule.

We have completed operations for Sunday, January 8. Main roads and most secondary roads are fine. The challenge will be your driveway and immediate street. We are completely booked for Monday, January 9 for both morning and evening operations. However, if you are with Police, Fire, EMS or hospital staff and would like assistance, we can try to find alternate transportation for you but can offer no guarantees. If you accept this, message us your pick up location, drop off location and the time you need to be there. We will attempt to find a driver and let you know but can offer no guarantees we will find someone. Thank you.

Lots of miles on the road this weekend. Still more to do tonight and a few tomorrow. Just a reminder that just because the roads might appear clear, they may not be. Keep the speeds down.

Be prepared for this winter event that will start Friday evening. Our services will be available with priority going to Police/Fire/EMS requests.

9:15 AM Thursday: Winter Storm Watch Now in Effect for much of central North Carolina. Still a great deal of uncertainty, as the models this morning have trended warmer south and east of Raleigh!
