Today, we had a productive four-hour meeting with the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners to continue our important discussions regarding OPA.

After months of hard work by the Board—including extensive conversations with stakeholders, educators, and leaders from Nevada’s dental and dental hygiene associations—a significant path forward has been identified.

The Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners will pursue legislation during the 2027 Nevada Legislative Session addressing the statutory components of the proposal. The Board will also move forward with the regulatory components through the Legislative Counsel Bureau for proposed amendments to NAC Chapter 631.

This is an important step forward and reflects what can be accomplished when our dental community comes together, listens to different perspectives, and works collaboratively toward solutions.

A very special thank you to Board President Dr. Ron West for his phenomenal leadership, open-minded approach, and willingness to partner with the Nevada Dental Association on this important issue. We truly appreciate his commitment to collaboration and finding a path forward that serves Nevada’s dental community.

NDA would also like to thank Adam Higginbotham, Executive Director of the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners, for the continued communication, partnership, and work throughout this process.

The NDA greatly values our partnership with the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners. We appreciate having a seat at the table and the opportunity to work together on issues that impact our profession, our members, and oral healthcare in Nevada.

There is still work ahead, but today represented meaningful progress. We look forward to continuing this collaboration as we prepare for the 2027 Legislative Session.

Her thoughtful leadership, collaborative approach, and steady presence have helped strengthen the Association while advocating for both the profession and the patients it serves. 🗣️

Her commitment extends far beyond the dental office. The Nevada Dental Association President’s Leadership Award recognizes individuals whose leadership has made a lasting impact on the Association and the profession of dentistry. 💫

👏 This year, the NDA is proud to present this distinguished honor to Dr. Perry Francis in recognition of his exceptional leadership, steadfast integrity, and extraordinary commitment to organized dentistry.

For the past eight years, Dr. Francis has served as Treasurer of the Nevada Dental Association, providing thoughtful financial stewardship and helping build the strong foundation the Association enjoys today. His careful decision-making and sound judgement have played a critical role in ensuring the long-term strength and stability of the NDA. He has led with fairness, wisdom, and integrity, earning the trust and respect of colleagues across Nevada.

Beyond his service to organized dentistry, Dr. Francis has devoted his career to improving the lives of children and families through compassionate pediatric dental care. As the founder of Wild About Smiles, he opened his first practice in Sparks, Nevada, in 2002, followed by a second location in Fallon in 2010. Together, the two practices provide exceptional care from infants to patients with special needs, helping thousands of young Nevadans establish healthy smiles that last a lifetime. 💙

He is a passionate advocate for prevention and education. Dr. Francis encourages families to establish a “dental home” by a child’s first birthday, recognizing that early, positive dental experiences are the foundation of lifelong oral health. 🗣️

Dr. Francis is an active member of the American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association, Northern Nevada Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and numerous other professional organizations. Whether caring for his patients, supporting fellow dentists, or advancing organized dentistry, he leads with humility and professionalism, leaving a lasting and positive impact on the lives of those he serves.

Chicago! ✈️

This past weekend, Nevada Dental Association President-Elect Dr. Tina Brandon and CEO Marianna Kacyra had the opportunity to attend the American Dental Association’s 2026 State Presidents-Elect Conference & Executive Directors Summit at ADA Headquarters. 🦷

It was more than just a conference—it was a chance to connect with dental leaders from across the country, exchange ideas, and have honest conversations about where organized dentistry is headed. 🗣️

One of the biggest takeaways was the renewed commitment to working together. The summit reflected a shared focus on strengthening relationships between the ADA and state dental associations, building trust, and finding better ways to support dentists and the communities they serve.

Dr. Tina Brandon and Marianna are returning to Nevada with fresh ideas, new connections, and an even greater excitement for what’s ahead. Nevada was proud to be part of these important conversations, and we look forward to putting that momentum to work for our members. 💙
