Champ Update 💜

We finally got some encouraging news! 🙌🏼

The GI team came by and said there is nothing concerning on Champ’s X-rays regarding stool buildup or a blockage, which is such a relief after what we went through just a few weeks ago!

They believe the inflammation and pancreatitis were likely triggered by the parainfluenza virus he tested positive for.

They also repeated his blood work, and thankfully, things are already starting to level back out! Such a relief to see his little body moving in the right direction. 💜

The plan has been to continue feeding him, giving IV fluids, and monitoring how well he tolerates everything. Thankfully, he has been able to eat without vomiting, and WE GET TO GO HOME! 🥹🙌🏼

We are beyond thankful that our sweet boy is doing better.

Thank you all for checking on Champ, praying for him, and loving our family through all of this. We are so ready to get him home and back in his own bed!! 🙌🏻🤍

Well, here we are again. 💔

Just a little over two weeks ago, we were walking out of these hospital doors after a really tough stay, so thankful to be going home and hoping it would be a long time before we found ourselves back here. Unfortunately, here we are again.

This morning, Champ started throwing up, just like he did during his last hospitalization. I immediately knew something wasn’t right. After coming to the hospital and having bloodwork and imaging done, we learned that he was backed up again, although thankfully not nearly as badly as last time. But this time, his doctors are also concerned about pancreatitis. On top of everything else, he’s tested positive for parainfluenza.

To say I’m discouraged would be an understatement.

I knew when Champ was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis that our lives would look different. I knew hospital stays would be a possibility, but I thought we’d be one of the cf families that got to say, “he’s 5 and hasn’t been hospitalized yet.”

It’s heartbreaking to watch your baby go through so much, especially when he’s only been on this earth for a year. We barely had time to settle back into our normal routine before finding ourselves right back in a hospital room.

And if I’m being completely transparent, it’s depressing. It’s mentally and emotionally exhausting. Sometimes I feel like we barely get our heads above water before another wave comes crashing down. I try so hard to stay positive, to be strong, and to remind myself how blessed we are, but some days are just really, really hard.

I hate that this is part of his childhood. I hate that hospital rooms, IVs, tests, and treatments are already so familiar to him. More than anything, I wish I could take it all away.
I’m so sorry Champy, I love you! ❤️

HOME!!! 💙🙌🏻

After having to replace Champ’s NG tube multiple times… which was complete torture to watch. they were finally able to get everything cleared out. He still had some buildup in the upper right side of his colon that needed to be flushed out from higher up, which is why the NG tube was necessary.

But the best news… he is FINALLY good to go home!! 🙌🏻 They took the NG tube out and we have one HAPPY boy. He walked for the first time just a little bit ago and he finally got his first bite of actual food since Sunday. A blueberry muffin 🥹🫐🧁

Now we’re just waiting to be discharged and get our boy HOME! Thank you so much for all the prayers, messages, and love over the last few days. We are so ready to be back home and hopefully feeling good for his first birthday party this weekend! 💙

Champ update 🫶🏻

His IV had to be placed again and they also placed an NG tube. His blood sugar dropped again, so he got some more apple juice to help bring it back up. We were finally able to get the MiraLAX in through his feeding tube, and he’s had some more Tylenol for his teethies 🥺

Unfortunately, we found out we won’t be going home today like we had hoped. The best part of his day was getting a visit from Sissy, Tanna, and Pawpaw. We’re hoping to get him out of the room for a little walk outside soon and give him a change of scenery. 🤍

Little Champ update 🤍

After the e***a and MiraLAX, Champ has now pooped 6+ times 🙌🏼 His blood sugar was a little low around 3am, which finally gave us the green light for some apple juice and applesauce, his first drink and snack since Monday morning at 6am! 🥹

They’re bringing him some Tylenol because our poor guy also has teeth coming in (because apparently he needed one more thing going on), and we may even get to try some milk soon!

This is the most momma snuggles I’ve ever gotten and while I love it I’m ready for him to feel like himself again. We’re praying we’re headed in the right direction and that we get to go home today. 🤞🏼🙏🏼 And most of all, that our boy is feeling so much better in time for his FIRST birthday party on Saturday! 🥹❤️

Keep those prayers coming for our Champ! 💪🏼

A little Champ update 💜

The last 24 hours have been a lot for our little guy. Champ started vomiting yesterday morning and after X-rays showed some stool build-up and some distention in his belly, we were advised to head to CHOA to be evaluated.

Because of his cystic fibrosis and his history of meconium ileus at birth, bowel issues are something his team takes seriously. Right now, they believe he is pretty backed up and that the pressure may be contributing to the vomiting and him not being able to keep much down.

We’ve repeated X-rays, done his respiratory treatments, and the plan is to start a clean-out with Miralax and an e***a and hopefully get everything moving without needing an NG tube. Surgery has also been looped in because of his history, so we’re thankful he’s exactly where he needs to be and being watched closely.

He’s tired, hungry, and very over all of us messing with him 😭 and mama’s nerves are definitely shot, but we’re hopeful this is something we can get cleared up and get our boy feeling like himself again soon.

If you think about Champ today, please say a little prayer that the clean-out works, his belly starts feeling better, and we can avoid anything more invasive. 💜
