Stephanie has been watching Alex this week due to his foster mom going to a conference in Canada. He’s enjoyed watching the X Files and The Diplomat with his human. He’s enjoyed sitting on his human’s lap outside getting some fresh air. Alex has tolerated making new doggie and kitty friends. He’s a sweet, old guy and it’s been great seeing him!!! 💜🐶😊

Last Thursday was a sad day. We had to say goodbye to Steve. He had a dental back in April and was diagnosed with moderate to severe kidney disease. We’ve had him on prescription food to try to slow the process. Steve was doing really well until last weekend. He started to lay in unusual places (for him), didn’t want to eat and was lethargic. We started giving him fluid therapy and appetite stimulants but he did not bounce back. Then on Thursday, he had some unexplained blood on his mouth. Steve was a sweet guy who was great with the other cats, especially his best friend, Tortilla. Steve was sweet to all of our team as well. We miss him a lot! Rest in heaven sweet boy. 🌈💔😢

Today is an extremely special day. We have had Surprise Kitty and Reyna for 5 years!!!😻They are 2/4 first senior cats we took in. We decided early on that we would be keeping both of them for the remainder of their lives. We felt they wouldn’t do well being re-homed. Surprise Kitty and Reyna have been the “welcoming committee” for all other cats that we’ve provided sanctuary to/for. We love them both dearly. They are our family!!!! We are so blessed to still have them. 💜🐱🙏😊

We took Lucy to the vet last week for her annual visit with vaccines. She did great! Her blood work is perfect and she’s heartworm negative. She’s chasing her boyfriend, Cash, in the video. Her kitty, foster brother Archie, is snuggling with her. And her foster momma, Emmy, loves her so much!!!! 💜 🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️

Look at these adorable snuffle mats that 5th graders at Snacks Crossing Elementary School, in Pike Township, made for our fur babies!!!! They made 10 of them. 💜We love our Seniors Helping Youth program. We love when kids see the value in doing something great for our senior dogs and cats. In this case, they are providing enrichment opportunities. Thank you from our entire team and from our 🐶 and 🐱!

We took Frisky to the vet last week because she had some labored breathing, her chest sounded crackly, she was urinating more frequently and she wasn’t eating very well. She’s had a heart murmur since we’ve had her. Her heart disease has progressed and she’s in congestive heart failure now. Frisky also has a UTI. She has antibiotics for the UTI and she’s now on 3 medications for her heart. One is Lasix, which is a diuretic. Just like in us humans, it’s important to keep fluid from filling up in her lungs. We will keep her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. Frisky is also completely blind and has significant neurological issues. She has no idea she’s sick. Frisky is a champ!💜🙏

Rudy gave us a scare the last couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, he started hiding in his foster home, wasn’t eating well, was staining to urinate and his eyes looked jaundiced. We took him to our vet, VCA Companion , and he was diagnosed with a UTI and Hepatic Lipidosis. He received an antibiotic injection for the infection to get it on board faster than oral medications. We also chose to have him hospitalized 2 days to receive aggressive fluid therapy. Hepatic Lipidosis can be reversed if caught early. We are so thankful we did and are happy to say he’s made a full recovery! He’s back to sleeping on his foster mom’s lap and watching Star Trek with his foster dad. 😊💜🙏
