For the past five years, +BOX has been delivering life-changing nutrition to children and families across San Diego County, making fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables more accessible in communities most impacted by health inequities. Together, we’ve achieved remarkable results, delivering over 1.3 million pounds of healthy food, contributing more than $2.3 million to the local economy by providing San Diegans with high-value, nutritious food, strengthening our community and supporting its growth.
While we’re proud of the measurable outcomes +BOX has achieved—including increased household food security, improved health and wellness, and enhanced student success—our vision has always been bolder, and our goals more ambitious. So, over the past six months, we’ve taken intentional steps to accelerate our growth and expand our impact.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that +BOX is merging with Brighter Bites, a national nonprofit dedicated to building communities of health through fresh food. This incredible partnership represents a unique opportunity to combine resources, expertise, and networks to expand our reach in San Diego, while benefiting from the knowledge and support of an organization that operates nutrition programs in 12 other cities nationwide.
With this merger, we are poised to make an even greater impact in San Diego. While +BOX will gradually transition into the Brighter Bites organization, our mission, purpose, and commitment to San Diego remain steadfast. For now, it’s business as usual, and your support—as donors, volunteers, and partners—continues to be vital to our success.
In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll work closely with our stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition and to maintain our shared vision of building healthier, more resilient communities.
