We’re excited to present 3 scholarships totaling $3500 tonight to well-deserving Carlisle Area School District seniors on behalf of the Flip Flops Foundation. These annual scholarships and approximately $12K in grants to local non-profits who serve our community’s youth happen through generous local and dispersed donors in honor of our fallen classmate, Todd Copenhaver, Class of 1985. Ears up! Ready to party for fun and a good cause? The Flip Flops Foundation is hosting its annual Homedown Throwdown 2026, with plenty of food, drinks, auction items and dancing to music from the 70s and 80s by the That's What She Said band. Looking for a way to give back in 2026? Here's two fun and easy volunteer opportunities with the Flip Flops Foundation:

Selection Committee:
Each year, the FFF awards educational scholarships to Carlisle-area students furthering their education at a college, university, technical or vocational program. This committee performs one of the most interesting and important functions of the foundation: reviewing and selecting our winning scholars.

• What we need … 5-7 people with no direct affiliation (not working) with the high schools
• What you’ll do … review, assess and rank applications to determine our 3 scholarship winners
• How this happens … during February (approx 4-5hrs) via a couple virtual meetings, emails, and application reviews (consisting of a form, an essay, letter of recommendation)

Class Captains:
These are informal “spread the FFF word” point people to help keep their communities connected to ours and what we’re doing.

• What we need … 1-2 people from as many class years as we can get
• What you’ll do … promote the efforts of the foundation with your friend/class circles
• How this happens … attend qtly mtgs (when possible) and share-out FFF emails and info however you can (..via Facebook class page posts, etc)

Looking for a volunteer opportunity that doesn’t take a lot of time, lets you keep in touch with old friends and give back to the Carlisle community? Be a 2026 Class Captain for the Flip Flops Foundation. It’s fun and it’s easy.

Class Captains are Carlisle High School grads who act as liaisons between the Flip Flops Foundation and their graduating class predominantly through social media.

What you need: A penchant for posting and social media pages
What you’ll do:
• Attend quarterly meetings as able and pass on any pertinent information via class FB page and social media friend groups
• Attend and help put on annual fundraising event
• Solicit others to attend event (via class FB page and friend groups)
• Spread awareness of FFF

This year, I returned to Carlisle to spend Thanksgiving with my family. And, I took part in the joyous tradition of going out to the Hamilton restaurant and bars with fellow Carlisle High School graduates, put together by the Flip Flops Foundation board, to hang out and catch up. The bars were packed and the sidewalks were brimming with bar hoppers.

I have a lot of reasons to thank the town of Carlisle, such as wonderful memories and great friends. That's why I joined the Flip Flops Foundation — first as an attendee to its way-too-fun annual fundraiser where I ate, drank and danced the night away with fellow Carlisle graduates I hadn't seen in years, and now on its board. I believe in giving back and giving back to the youth of Carlisle and its local organizations that uplift those still living in Carlisle seems about perfect.
