Carlisle Cultural Council We provide funding for local cultural programs and also produce cultural programs in Carlisle MA

The Carlisle Cultural Council (CCC) promotes the arts, music, history, culture and the humanities in our community. We serve our community by supporting and producing both participatory and audience-based cultural and arts activities. The Carlisle Cultural Council is currently a 7-member appointed group of Carlisle residents who support local cultural initiatives, primarily through an annual grant

award process established by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. These grants provide funds to deserving organizations and individuals offering a variety of cultural experiences to the residents of Carlisle. The Council also produces its own programs and can independently fund local programs outside of the state grant process. The Carlisle Cultural Council is part of the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program. Each year, LCCs award more than $3 million in grants to more than 6,000 cultural programs statewide.

This Saturday, at the Carlisle Farmer's Market, get some shopping done for the week and listen to the acoustic rock tunes of Strung Together, between 10-12pm.

Strung Together is a veritable mashup of musicians who all met while working behind the scenes in the film and television industry. You may remember hearing them at the Carlisle Music Festival this spring, they share a love of the arts – both on-screen and on the front porch.

We’re excited to have two special guests joining the fun at this week’s market. Each will be performing a short set.

>Christie Prince of Mud Dive, whose Carlisle Music Festival set in June was a revelation.

>Russ Turnquist of The Rusted Bucket Band. Russ is the reason we have music at the Market. We owe him a boatload of thanks for getting this thing started a couple of years ago.

The trio of Mark Levitan (harmonica), Chris Brenne (guitar and vocals) and Lee Perlman (guitar and vocals) will continue their exploration of notable songs done their way after Christie’s and Russ’s sets. Some days they belong to a group called the Soul Soothers. Other days, they're the Soul Shredders. Come see who shows up.

Music at the Carlisle Farmer's Market on Saturday August 22 features the debut performance of Dry Town.

Dry Town is an acoustic duo featuring Carlisle’s Scott Howard on guitar, harmonica and vocals, and Alyssa Held on guitar and vocals. Special guest Ilana Held will be sitting in on mandolin and vocals.

Dry Town plays contemporary folk/Americana songs, classic folk-rock tunes and originals. Their sound is built around vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and harmonica, adding great mandolin playing on Saturday.

This Saturday, the a capella group, Soundbites, will be performing Carlisle Farmers Market

Soundbites are a community-based, contemporary a ca****la group with 20 coed members, ranging in age from 20s to 60s and hailing from all throughout the greater Boston area. Directed by Carlislean Sandy Serkes, Soundbites enjoys singing an eclectic repertoire, ranging from pop to jazz to Broadway.
