January 2013 Rick and Janell Stengel took a cruise to the Caribbean. Little did they know that that stop would impact their lives forever. They were there for 8 hours. It was just long enough for them to fall in love with the island and the locals. God was beginning to work in them already. They couldn’t get the island out of their minds and soon booked a flight to go there again. They decided to
do a little “day mission” work while they were visiting. They connected with Valerie Nelson a Canadian expat running a clinic and school for people impacted by AIDS. Over the years, she introduced them to the not so pretty parts of the island. The people who the cruise ship people never see. The places that not even the trash collectors will not take out the trash because it’s too dangerous or the dump where homeless people live on top of and scavenge for food. Rick and Janell would bring suitcases of clothes, medicine, formula, school supplies and money to purchase food. Their church family, Trinity Lutheran Church Friedensau and others support their efforts. Yet, they felt that God was calling them to do more. After many prayers and talks, Rick and Janell along with their good friend Marla decided to start the christian nonprofit Our Daily Hope. Their mission is to give the poor hope by giving them food and clothing and sharing the love and salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
