Aroostook Emergency Communication Team - ARES

Emergency Radio Team activated by the Aroostook EMA

We are a group of volunteer Ham radio operators who are trained and ready to be activated by the Aroostook County EMA in a time of need for Radio Communications, or to assist the National Weather Service gather information during large scale storms. We are on stand by all the time for an emergency where normal means of communication are down, or are inadequate. By utilizing amateur (Ham) radio, we will assist any community in Aroostook county to provide communications in a disaster situation or large scale event.

What a great day for a drill. We participated in the Maine SET this morning. Thank you to the members that came and took part! We found a couple things that we need to work on, which is the reason we do these drills, to be ready and prepared when we are needed.

Good morning,
Well here we go......... Possible snow in the northwest part of the area! Doesn't sound like much now, but I will be keeping an eye on the Friday-Saturday info and get that out as soon as see any changes. It is Northern Maine, and we know how things can change..............stay tuned!

It is going to be a windy one throughout the county. Are you prepared? Battery powered radio, flashlights, charged cell phone? Have you tested your backup power source, if you have one? Have you secured any items outside your home?

Due to the lack of students signing up, I have to cancel this weekend's class. I will do another one in the future and will keep you all up to date when I gate a weekend that I can schedule one. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for understanding.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

James is back at it again....... After a small vacation from classes, he is starting to offer classes to get your technical level license.

He will be offering a technician level class on Saturday September 26, 2026 and Sunday September 27, 2026. Class will be from 8am to 5pm on both days (with lunch on your own), and will be held at the Aroostook EMA office in Caribou.

If you are interested in getting your license please let James Jalbert ([email protected]) know so he can add you to his roster.

The latest model guidance indicate the greatest risk for severe T-storms will be in central and western Maine although severe weather is still possible across all of Maine today. All hazards still possible including damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado
