The latest model guidance indicate the greatest risk for severe T-storms will be in central and western Maine although severe weather is still possible across all of Maine today. All hazards still possible including damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado

Here is the 4:30pm update from the NWS Office in Caribou! Please stay safe, and make sure you are aware of what is going on around you! Now it the time to prepare, make sure you have batteries for lights, make sure phones are charged, and you have a way to get weather updates.

Tuesday is not looking good, the weather service has us at a level 3 of 5 for chances of strong to sever storms! Stay safe and be prepared!

Good Morning,

Confidence is increasing in the risk for severe weather Tuesday into Tuesday night, with the highest threat across Northern and Central Maine. The main threat is for damaging wind gusts and large hail.

In addition to the severe threat, it also will be very warm to hot across mainly central and east central Maine Tuesday and across coastal Downeast Wednesday. Highs in those areas will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat indices in the lower to mid 90s, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

The storm hit at 2:47 AM.
Power out. Cell towers down. Roads flooded. 911 lines jammed.

And somewhere in a basement shack exactly like this one — a licensed ham radio operator put on his headphones, keyed up the ARES net, and became the most important person in his county.

No one called him. No one had to.
He was already there.

This is what the outside world never understands about ham radio operators. We don’t prepare for emergencies. We prepare through the hobby — every contact, every net check-in, every antenna build, every license upgrade.

So when it matters, there’s no scrambling. No hesitation.

Headphones on. Frequency dialed. Log open.
Ready.
