Our little surprise turned out perfectly! Last night our dear LASA advisor, Lili, received the RSO Advisor of the Year Award. You might not always see her front and center, but she's always there guiding us when we need it and making sure our events are a success.

We appreciate you and everything you do for us, Lili.

Today, we commemorate the battles fought from many trenches, for way too many years, by women all over the world. We take a moment to remember and recognize the achievements of those before us with grateful hearts as we acknowledge it is now our turn to keep pushing for equity for all.

Today, let's celebrate by identifying our own trenches and the ways we can make a change from them; and if you struggle to identify your trenches, stop for a second and listen. Listen with intent to the women around you, listen to their stories and their hopes, and you'll find your way of contributing. There is no action too small and no protest too loud when it comes to fighting for our rights.

Lively, strong, loud, passionate. Latin America is a beating heart that rumbles beneath its high mountains, under its crystal-clear seas, and inside its children's chests. Last week, during the International Festival Week, we were able to pour that beating heart into every activity we were part of, from waving our flags with pride at the Flag Parade, to cooking delicious dishes for you to try at the Food Fair, to dancing on the Cultural Show's stage. We want to highlight the hard work of our LASA members who represented us this year by cooking, selling, dancing, and even serving as masters of ceremony. You make us proud, and your dedication is what keeps LASA thriving.

Thanks to for providing spaces for cultural diversity, to the Carbondale community for supporting and celebrating us, and to the for coordinating this event through the inevitable ups and downs of the process.

Today, let us shed some light on a special date very often overlooked. On November 19th we celebrate International Men's Day to recognize the men working to achieve equality and create a better world, but during this day we also bring awareness to men's and boys' struggles that a lot of the time go unnoticed or have been long normalized.

In LASA, we celebrate the men who you might sometimes see on stage for some events, but mostly work behind the scenes setting up tables and chairs, climbing columns to hang decorations, solving technical issues, running for last-minute-needed supplies, cleaning, cooking, and overall just keeping the calm during the unavoidable hassles that come our way.

We see you, we appreciate you, we thank you.
