Good things grow when a community comes together. 💚🌱

We’re incredibly grateful to the John T. Gorman Foundation for their generous $15,000 General Operating Support grant through the Foundation’s 2026 Direct Services Grant Program.

At a time when the need for food assistance is growing across Maine, this support helps Farms for Food Equity continue connecting Maine farmers with families, food pantries, and community organizations that need fresh, nutritious food most.

We’re honored to have the Foundation’s support as we work to keep more Maine-grown food in Maine and on the tables of our neighbors. Thank you for investing in our mission and helping Maine people thrive. 💚

7,000 pounds of Maine-grown produce. 💚

on Friday, August 14th our friends at Wayside Food Programs distributed 7,000 pounds of fresh produce from Farms for Food Equity farms to community members across southern Maine.

Through food rescue, local pantry partnerships, and free community meals, Wayside helps make sure good food gets where it’s needed most—rather than going to waste. Together, we’re keeping more of Maine’s harvest in Maine and getting fresh, nutritious food onto the tables of our neighbors. 🌱🥕🍅

We’re so grateful for the work Wayside does and proud to be part of making this connection between Maine farmers and Maine communities possible.

Fresh Maine food, where it’s needed most. 💚

Preble Street is on the front lines of hunger relief in Maine, providing thousands of meals and essential food support to people in need every day. Fresh, local produce is an important part of that work, helping turn Maine’s agricultural abundance into nutritious meals for our neighbors.

Through their food programs, Preble Street connects local farms with people experiencing food insecurity—helping make sure more Maine-grown food stays in Maine and reaches the people who need it most. 🌱🥕🍎

Meet the Board - Say hello to Finn Naylor 👋

Finn joined the Farms for Food Equity Board in 2025 and serves as Marketing Director for Rosemont Market & Bakery, where she works closely with farmers, food producers, and community partners to strengthen Maine’s local food system.

Growing up around Rosemont, Finn saw firsthand the relationships between farmers, small food businesses, and the people they feed. Those early experiences inspired her passion for supporting local agriculture, expanding food access, and building healthier, more connected communities.

Finn is proud to support FFE’s mission of increasing access to healthy, local food for all Mainers while ensuring farmers are paid fairly for their work. She believes that food is a public good and that strong local food systems are essential to thriving communities.

We’re grateful for Finn’s passion, leadership, and commitment to building a more equitable food system 💚

Alongside leaders from across the state, Penny shared how Farms for Food Equity is helping connect surplus produce from local farms with hunger relief organizations—supporting farmers, reducing food waste, and increasing access to healthy food for Maine communities.

Meet the Board - Say hello to Jonathan Dunitz 👋

Jonathan is an attorney at Verrill, where he works with renewable energy developers, water utilities, breweries, distilleries, wineries, and clients with insurance coverage questions, while also serving as a mediator.

A lifelong supporter of local agriculture, Jonathan and his family were locavores before “locavore” was even a thing. His family owned a John Deere dealership in Orange County, New York, and believed one of the best ways to support their farming customers was by buying local produce and dairy. Today, he still loves shopping for local produce and cheese and visiting Portland-area farmers markets.

When Jonathan learned about Farms for Food Equity, he was excited to reconnect with farmers while helping put fresh, nutritious food on the tables of Maine families in need.

“Danny, you can’t park there.” — the title of his late father’s memoir and a quote that continues to inspire Jonathan.

We’re grateful for Jonathan’s passion and dedication to our mission 💚
