Meet the Board - Say hello to Anne Carney đź‘‹

Anne serves in the Maine Senate representing District 29 — South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, and part of Scarborough — where she is Senate Chair of the Judiciary Committee and the Joint Rules Committee. She also serves on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee.

Anne’s passion for service began with a project called “The Two Maines,” where she explored how agriculture can help build economic and cultural unity across our state. Through that work, she saw firsthand how deeply food and farming connect Maine communities.

For Anne and her family, the “bounty of Maine” is more than a phrase — it’s a way of life. Whether it’s local vegetable stir-fry, homemade veggie pizzas, or lobster with Maine Grains cornbread, gathering around food grown by Maine farmers is something they deeply value.

“When Penny told me about Farms For Food Equity, I instantly saw the connections between her focus on feeding people and keeping Maine farms vital and the work we are doing in Augusta to end hunger in Maine, protect our environment, and promote Maine agriculture.”

We are grateful for Anne’s leadership, advocacy, and commitment to ensuring all Mainers can enjoy the bounty of Maine while supporting the farms that sustain our communities. 🌽🍓🥕💚

What does a Hunger Free Maine look like?

A Hunger Free Maine means every family has access to fresh, local food with dignity while Maine farmers are paid fairly for the food they grow. It’s a future where schools, food pantries, and communities are connected directly to local farms and fisheries, where children are nourished, older adults are supported, and rural communities can truly thrive.

At Farms for Food Equity, we believe ending hunger means building a stronger, more equitable food system — one that supports both the people growing our food and the people who need access to it most 💚

“Maine’s Budget Can Help Us End Hunger” highlights the important connection between food access, economic stability, and community well-being. The article shares how Maine’s FY26-27 supplemental budget includes investments that support children, seniors, working families, and programs helping people access nutritious food with dignity.

From universal school meals and Meals on Wheels funding to housing stability, childcare support, and SNAP access, these investments recognize that ending hunger takes long-term community support and collaboration. The article also highlights the growing challenges many families, seniors, and farmers continue to face as food costs and living expenses rise.

One bright spot: philanthropist McKenzie Scott, recently donated $70 million to Meals on Wheels programs nationwide — a powerful reminder of the impact community investment can have on the lives of older adults and families in need.❤️

What an incredible Fund a Farm campaignđź’š

A huge THANK YOU to the entire Farms for Food Equity community for showing up to support Green Spark Farm and helping make fresh, local food more accessible to our community.

Together, we raised over $2,750, which will go directly toward purchasing produce from Green Spark Farm to be donated to organizations that support families in need. This support not only helps nourish our community, but also strengthens local agriculture and the important work of small farms.

We are so grateful for every donation, share, kind word, and show of support. Community partnerships like this remind us what’s possible when we come together with a shared purpose.

Thank you for helping us turn local food into local impact 🌱🌸

Let’s feed Maine communities—together 🌱

We’re excited to launch this Fund a Farm campaign in support of Green Spark Farm, working to expand access to fresh, healthy food across the state. In collaboration with Farms for Food Equity, this initiative funds the purchase of organic produce grown right at and delivers it to local food pantries, shelters, and meal programs throughout southern Maine.

Through this Fund a Farm program, your donation goes twice as far—feeding families in need while directly supporting a local Maine farm.

Every contribution helps put nutritious food on the table while uplifting a farm committed to sustainability and year-round community care.

Be part of the impact—head to and tap “Support Green Spark Farm” in the bio to give. 💚
