OCEAN – Dain Sparks admitted that he wouldn’t have believed it as a freshman if someone anticipated him graduating from Croatan as an accomplished lacrosse player.

“If you saw me as a freshman, I was really small, like 5-foot-6, 125 pounds. I was super tiny,” Sparks said. “I didn’t play much in my freshman year. So no, I would not have believed you.”

Croatan's 'natural leader' Weihrauch is area girls lacrosse player of year

OCEAN – Berkley Weihrauch quickly mentioned her team when the Croatan sophomore was asked to reflect on this past girls’ lacrosse season.

“We had a great season. As a whole, it was way better than last year,” Weihrauch said. “As a team, we had growth. I had a lot of fun with the girls, and we all connected on the field. Maddie Sutton and I would always make fun things happen, and the younger girls came up and helped us on the field.”

It certainly was a strong season for Weihrauch and the Cougars as she recorded 92 goals and 20 assists to help Croatan go 17-3 overall and advance to the NCHSAA 1-A/6-A East Regional final.
