Canton Canoe Weekend In early May a weekend paddling event draws as many as 350 paddlers to the Village of Canton.

Canton was home to John Henry Rushton and his famous boatworks, founded in 1875 along the banks of the Grasse River. In his honor, this historic event began in 1962, and was originally known as the “Rushton Memorial Canoe Race” Today pro, amateur and recreational races all remain an integral part of the weekend line up. The Canton Canoe Weekend pro and amateur races are official events in the spor

t of marathon canoe racing. In addition to being the home of the World Championship Pro Race, featuring a purse of over $7,000, Canton Canoe Weekend hosts amateur and recreational races over the two-day event. The various categories include canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard (SUP) races, a relay race, and antique and voyager canoe races. Amateur and recreational paddlers of all skill levels from the local community, New York State and the Northeast, and pro paddlers from across the U.S. and Canada, paddle distances ranging from 3-14 miles on the scenic Grasse and Little Rivers.

Your last chance to pre-register for a Canton Canoe Weekend race, the Rushton Tour and the Saturday Chicken BBQ is coming up! Registration closes today at 10:00pm EDT, April 30th!

Pre-register now to ensure your name and hometown are spelled correctly in the results, otherwise we interpret your handwriting as best as we can! You can either pay in advance when your pre-register or by cash or check when you check in for your event. Exact change or check is preferred.

You may also download and print a waiver form to save time during registration (don't forget to bring the signed form with you!).

Canton Canoe Weekend next Friday, Saturday and Sunday! As of today (Sunday, April 26th) the water level looks perfect for the races. The C-1 Women's and Men's Pro World Championship Race will be an exciting event with top talent from across North America competing. We are only six days away from the start of the races, and only five days until the Rushton Tour kicks off the weekend.

Most of the photos here are from a paddle today to the 'rock garden'. There are a few tree and rock hazards to avoid, but not many! Most rocks are visible with only a few just out of sight and under water.
