Scottish Terrier Rescue of the Southeast

Scottish Terrier Rescue of the Southeast We are a 501c3 organization that rescues and finds forever homes for Scottish Terriers in NC, SC, an Our foster dogs come to us from a variety of sources.

Scottish Terrier Rescue of the Southeast (STRSE) is dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of Scottish Terriers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. These include, but are not limited to:

• abandonment by their owners
• relinquished to animal shelters, pounds, or animal control
• picked up strays that are never claimed
• owner surrender due to life changes (death of an owner, a new baby,

medical problems, etc.) We take them in, love them like our own, and ensure their medical needs are taken care of. While they are in our care - our foster Scotties receive the following medical treatment:

• spayed/neutered (if not already)
• heartworm tested
• vaccinations
• other specific medical treatments if needed

We assess the dog’s needs and find a great forever home from our pool of applicants! If you are interested in adopting a Scottie, would like to make a donation, or you'd like to volunteer with STRSE - please contact us or visit our website at http://scottiesoutheast.org.

We spend a lot of time talking about enrichment and exercise. Just as important is downtime!

This is a topic we could probably take a few notes from for ourselves too! Not just our dogs. While having outlets for psychological and physical needs is essential, having the ability to rest and recover is equally important. Sleep quality and stress levels play into how well our dogs recover day in and day out. But let’s take a close look at how it specifically affects behavior.

The art of doing nothing. Fostering a dog might look like playing with toys and eating good snacks, but the most important parts of getting these guys ready for their future happen when no one is looking. It’s pretty boring!

Simon spent some time learning to do absolutely nothing. He’s a young, active dog who is always ready for the next adventure. While that’s a great way to be, it can also lead to things like being too excitable or stressing other dogs in the house. Left unchecked, this turns into resource guarding toys or dog fights. It’s our responsibility to set these guys up with the skill set they need to be successful.

Sitting quietly during a mundane morning adds so many tools to Simon’s toolbox. Not only does he learn to calmly exist with the other dogs, but we also get to learn more about and work on his likes and dislikes when it comes to touch. Tasks like grooming and veterinary visits are less stressful and safer for our dogs AND staff.

😂 Lastly, you can take these tips as an excuse to do nothing with your dog.

🖤Meet 10 year old Lolly.

We learned that Lolly found herself in a local shelter yesterday. Everything fell together so easy for her to join us first thing this morning.

We’re looking forward to getting to know Lolly and addressing any medical needs she may have.

📌Lolly is NOT yet accepting adoption applications. We need to spend time addressing medical needs and getting to know her.

📌 Simon is now accepting applications! Here’s what we know about him:

Simon is a 1–2-year-old male brindle Scottish Terrier. Upon adoption, he will be neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His teeth are healthy and white!

Simon is SWEET. He’s affectionate but independent. He loves attention but is also okay with giving you space. Simon seems like a very environmentally stable dog, so if you’re looking for a buddy to walk around town with (and turn heads), he’s your guy.

He does well meeting other dogs while out and about. He engages great with Rudder and Hoppy (large and small dogs with laid-back personalities) and has shown that he takes correction well. Simon LOVES toys, and his favorite game is fetch. He will play for days.

Simon is well-behaved for grooming and veterinary handling. He loves to be held on his back and told he’s a good boy. Simon is housetrained and loves car rides.

We are unsure how Simon is with cats, but based on his “attentiveness” to squirrels, we can safely say he has a typical Scottie prey drive. Simon is not fostered with children but did well meeting a couple while out in public.

🌼It’s so important for dogs to have the opportunity to run and play, to sniff, to work a puzzle. But there’s also so much progress that happens in doing nothing. Learning to be content doing nothing is not only a valuable skill but it’s essential for Daisy while she gains weight and strength.
