Today is World Homeless Day — a day observed in cities around the world to say the same thing: homelessness is a solvable problem, and it starts with paying attention to the people experiencing it right where we live.
Here in Santa Clara County, that's over 10,700 of our neighbors, according to the most recent count. People sleeping in cars, in shelters, in encampments, on friends' couches — many of them working, many of them kids, many of them seniors.
World Homeless Day is about recognizing that homelessness is overwhelmingly a policy failure and a housing math problem, and both of those things can change.
So this weekend, we're asking you to do one small thing: learn one fact about homelessness in Santa Clara County you didn't know before, and share it with someone. Awareness is where every policy change starts.
