Camilla, GA: On Saturday, September 20th, 2025 the Camilla Black Cultural Awareness Committee hosted a ‘Teach-In’: Lessons from the Camilla Massacre of 1868.

Members and community gathered to remember and reflect on one of the many violent acts of racism that occurred across the ‘Deep South’ during the Reconstruction period of the United States. The Reconstruction era in the United States was a period of rebuilding and redefining how the United States of America, post Civil War, could further liberate and resource formerly enslaved African communities. And African people were the driving force of those conversations!

The committee has made the self paced learning guide available to the public. Click here or enter the link into your browser to access it: https://bit.ly/CamillaMassacre2025
