Today, we commemorate Juneteenth—a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of opportunity.

As we reflect on the sacrifices, struggles, and triumphs of those who came before us, we are reminded that education remains one of the most powerful tools for creating opportunity, expanding possibilities, and transforming lives. Every degree earned, every scholarship awarded, and every dream pursued honors a legacy of perseverance and progress.

At the Rainey Day College Foundation, we believe that access to education helps open doors and empowers students to build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities. Please check your emails. Then check them again. And when someone reaches out about a scholarship, internship, mentorship, college application, or opportunity… respond promptly and professionally.

Too many students miss out on opportunities simply because they are not checking messages, replying late, or ignoring communication altogether. Lissen, if someone took the time to recommend you, interview you, mentor you, or offer guidance, silence is not the move. 😭

Responsiveness shows maturity, professionalism, accountability, and genuine interest. Sometimes the opportunity is there waiting for you — but you have to meet it halfway.

Auntie is rooting for everybody, but Auntie also needs everybody to answer their emails. 💫

When applying for scholarships, colleges, internships, jobs, or asking for recommendation letters, your email is often the very first impression. And baby… Ca$[email protected] and [email protected] are not giving “future scholar.” 😭

If your current email is more personal or playful, consider creating a separate email account that is simple, clean, and professional, specifically for school, scholarship, and career opportunities. Using your first and last name whenever possible is always a safe bet.

Trust Auntie on this one. A professional email won’t guarantee the opportunity, but an unprofessional one can definitely hurt it. 📧✨

Colleges and scholarship committees want to see students who are engaged, compassionate, dependable, and willing to pour back into their communities. Community service helps show leadership, initiative, teamwork, and character — all things that matter beyond grades and test scores.

Start early and keep track of those hours because Auntie does not want anyone scrambling senior year trying to remember what they did in 10th grade. 😭

Most importantly, community service reminds us that success is not just about what we achieve for ourselves, but how we help others along the way. 💫
