GEANCO saves and transforms lives in Nigeria. Established in 2005, GEANCO saves and transforms lives in Africa. We lead complex surgical missions to Nigeria.

We run an innovative program to fight anemia and help poor, vulnerable pregnant women deliver healthy babies. Through our David Oyelowo Leadership Scholarship for Girls, we provide full tuition, medical care, and social & psychological support to young female victims of terrorism and gender inequality in Nigeria (https://www.geanco.org/portfolio-items/scholarships/). We also donate laptops, books,

medicine and sports facilities to Brightland Academy in the southeast of the country. We proudly count among our supporters Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Charlize Theron, David Oyelowo, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Rachel Brosnahan, Jimmy Kimmel, Thandie Newton, Jeff Daniels, Daisy Ridley, Forest Whitaker, Yvonne Orji, Tyrese, Uzo Aduba, Bryan Cranston, Steven Soderbergh, The Oscars, Disney, CAA, Fox Studios, Janus Funds, Capital Group Companies, Google and Netflix. Afam Onyema graduated cm laude from Harvard University and Stanford Law School and declined several lucrative corporate law offers to lead GEANCO full-time. In 2020, he was named one of the Top Ten Most Influential Africans in the Diaspora.

Before any celebrities or billionaires supported GEANCO - before GEANCO even officially existed - my college classmates were my champions. They were among the very first to believe in me, to walk alongside me and see me through the inevitable challenges and setbacks. Now, 25 years (!!) later, it was one of my greatest honors to be asked by them to share my journey. I am so very grateful for everything I received and continue to receive from this cherished community.

As Mother’s Day approaches, we honor the heroic women who give life & provide hope in Nigeria every single day:

The mothers who will soon celebrate their first Mother’s Day at one of our six clinics (with a 7th clinic on the way later this year!)

The mothers who teach & inspire our scholarship girls and skillfully tend to their mental & menstrual health.

The mothers who, serving as nurses & doctors, keep our communities healthy, strong, and joyful.

Our GEANCO mothers are everything to us, and our donors are everything to them❤️

While our US-based surgical team took a well-deserved break last winter, our donors generously funded procedures performed by the skilled Nigerian surgeons we have trained over the years. 60 indigent patients received free hernia repairs and tumor, cyst, fibroid & appendix removals. Our supporters significantly improved our patients’ quality of life while also giving local doctors and nurses an energizing opportunity to serve the most challenged & needy in their own communities!!❤️

Last year, we provided thousands more teens in Nigeria w/ critical mental & emotional health support, along with tending to the menstrual health needs of thousands of girls & young women. We remain grateful to Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, our partners in this important work!🙏🏾❤️
