Mission Without Borders was founded in 1960 in response to the material and spiritual needs of people living in poverty or suffering persecution in Communist Europe. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Mission Without Borders has remained faithful to its cause of aiding families and children that are still effected by the economic and political turmoil caused by Communist Europe. In addition to it

s partnerships with local churches, MWB works one on one with families and orphanages in order to foster community, dignity, and self sufficiency through Christ-centered programs. MWB operates in 6 Eastern European countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.

Our after-school programs are about so much more than homework. They give children a safe place to learn, play, build friendships, and simply be children.
Each session provides a warm, nutritious meal, homework support, and emotional and spiritual encouragement from caring teachers and volunteers who take the time to listen, explain, and help each child grow.

Zef* isn't the only child in his family determined to learn.
All six children are in school, from six-year-old Zef to 17-year-old Genta. Every day, they walk long distances to school in the cold and rain because there's no money for transport.
"It's not easy, especially when it's cold or wet, but we go because we want to learn," says 16-year-old Gjyle*. "We want to have a different life."

When Zef* received his very first backpack, he hugged it tightly and smiled from ear to ear. Inside were simple things many of us take for granted: notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, and everything he needed to begin his first year at school.

For Zef's mum, who is raising six children on a very limited income, these basic school supplies were simply out of reach. Too often, she's faced an impossible choice- buy everything her children need to start the school year or put food on the table.
