Where Did the Mounted Unit Go?

If you stopped by the Farm to Fork Market at Indian Creek Plaza this evening, you may have seen members of the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit visiting with the community. One minute they're there, and the next, they seem to disappear!

While the horses and officers enjoy spending time on the plaza meeting residents and visitors, they are also actively patrolling downtown Caldwell. When you don't see them on the plaza, chances are they're out keeping an eye on our downtown businesses, parks, and public spaces.

The Mounted Unit is a valuable part of our community policing efforts, providing a highly visible presence while building positive relationships with the public.

The next time you see the officers and their equine partners downtown, be sure to stop by and say hello! They always enjoy meeting members of the community and sharing a little about their incredible horses.

Today could have turned into a heartbreaking disaster, but instead it became a powerful reminder of what true community looks like.

On Memorial Day, an unexpected massive wind gust flipped over one of our horse shelters, creating a frightening and dangerous situation in seconds. But almost immediately, the unit’s friends came running to help.

To every single person who showed up, jumped in, lifted, hauled, checked on horses, brought equipment, offered support, and stood beside us — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your strength, compassion, and willingness to help made all the difference.

What could have been overwhelming became a moment filled with hope, teamwork, and love for these animals. Because of all of you, the horses are safe, cared for, and protected.

Memorial Day is about honoring sacrifice, service, and unity — and today we witnessed that spirit firsthand. In the middle of chaos, this incredible community showed exactly what it means to stand together.

We are beyond grateful for the unit’s friends, supporters, and everyone who stepped up without hesitation. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Thank you for proving once again that when difficult moments happen, we are never alone. ❤️🐴🇺🇸

Yesterday, the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit spent the day training at the barn — building trust, sharpening skills, and preparing both horses and riders to better serve our community.

As we head into Memorial Day, we’re reminded that freedom is never free. We honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice allows us the privilege to continue serving and protecting our community each day.

We are grateful for those who served, those who continue to serve, and the families who carry that sacrifice with them.

From all of us with the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

Every interaction matters. Every conversation builds trust. Every child deserves to feel safe.

The Caldwell Police Mounted Unit is proud to be creating meaningful connections throughout our community — especially with our youngest community members. So far in 2026, our educational outreach team has visited 6 schools and connected with approximately 560 children through hands-on educational experiences, conversations, and positive interactions with our horses and officers.

These visits are about far more than horses. They are opportunities for children to see law enforcement in a positive and approachable way — to ask questions, learn about safety, understand the role of police officers, and build trust with the people who are here to protect and serve them.

For many children, these moments leave a lasting impression. A conversation, a smile, or simply meeting one of our mounted officers can help replace fear with comfort and uncertainty with connection. We believe strong communities are built through relationships, and those relationships begin with showing up, listening, educating, and being present.

We still have several school visits ahead before beginning our summer downtown patrols, and we remain committed to strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community we proudly serve.

Together, we are not only protecting our community — we are building trust, inspiring future generations, and creating safer neighborhoods through connection.

Today was one of those days that reminds us what truly matters—community, kindness, and celebrating life’s special moments.

The Caldwell Police Mounted Unit had the honor of bringing Magic, our miniature horse mascot, to help celebrate a very special 6th birthday. From the moment Magic arrived, there were smiles, laughter, and so much joy shared by everyone there.

It was incredible to see so many people from the community come together to celebrate, show support, and make this day unforgettable. Magic loved meeting everyone, especially the birthday boy, and being part of such a meaningful celebration.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make today so special. These are the moments that stay with us forever. 💙

Happy Birthday, Levi—you are surrounded by so much love!

There’s something powerful happening in our community… and it has four hooves and a badge. 🐴💙

The Caldwell Police Mounted Unit has been making their way through our elementary schools, and the impact has been nothing short of incredible. With every visit, they’re not just introducing students to these amazing horses—they’re building trust, sparking curiosity, and creating meaningful connections that kids will remember for a lifetime.

You can see it in the smiles, the wide eyes, and the brave little hands reaching out to connect. These moments matter. They help children see law enforcement in a positive, approachable way while teaching respect, responsibility, and confidence.

This program is more than just a visit—it’s an investment in our future. It’s about building relationships, strengthening our community, and showing our youth that they are seen, valued, and supported.

To the officers, the horses, and everyone behind the scenes making this possible—thank you. What you’re doing is making a difference.

A big thank you to Van Buren Elementary for welcoming the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit to spend time with your students!

Visits like this give us the chance to go beyond our daily duties and focus on what matters most—building trust, creating connections, and sharing knowledge with our community. It’s always a privilege to introduce students to our horses, talk about what we do, and hopefully leave them with a positive and lasting impression.

We appreciate the opportunity to be part of your day and look forward to continuing to connect, educate, and inspire throughout our community. 🐴

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Sacajawea Elementary School for inviting the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit to come speak with your students!

Opportunities like this are exactly what our unit is all about. Beyond patrol, our mission is to connect with our community, build positive relationships, and provide meaningful education—especially for our younger generations. Being able to share what we do, introduce our horses, and engage with students in a hands-on and memorable way is something we truly value.

Thank you again for welcoming us—we look forward to many more opportunities to connect, educate, and serve! 🐴💙
