Mental health conditions are health conditions. They can affect how people think, feel, function, relate to others, and manage daily life. Using respectful, specific, and person-centered language can help shift the conversation away from judgment and toward understanding.

✨Meet the Board-Kate Dahlstrom✨

I am a retired CPA, active environmentalist and outdoor enthusiast and very active parent-advocate for better mental health services and facilities - for Northern MI in particular, as Northern MI continues to be the most severely deficient area in the state.
I also believe that organic, holistic therapies like music, dance, nature, yoga, animals and other are very underutilized, and this needs to change. These complimentary therapies are essential to long-term recovery.
The thing I love most about NAMI is that it creates a community of care, understanding and empathy.

💙Meet the Board! -Donna Norkoli💙

Hello to all! I’m Donna, and I serve as the President for NAMI Wexford/Missaukee.

I have been involved with NAMI for many years in the communities where I lived. When I came to Cadillac, I wanted to start a NAMI affiliate and met a dear friend who had the same goal. Together we formed NAMI Wexford and Missaukee Counties. I am so excited to have this fantastic Board of dedicated people who are committed to helping people in our communities who are experiencing mental health disorders and providing support and resources for their families and loved ones.

NAMI Wexford-Missaukee provides support, education, and advocacy throughout Wexford and Missaukee Counties on behalf of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Our vision is a community that supports healthy and fulfilling lives for people affected by mental illness.
I am also the Regional Planning Manager at District Health Department #10 and I love my job of coordinating programs to improve access to healthcare, to reduce stigma around mental illness and substance use disorders, to reduce the risk of chronic disease, and create communities where everyone can thrive.

As you can see by my photo, I love to fish, camp and play golf in the summer and bundle up with a good book in the winter months.

I’m a single mom of three who brings both lived experience and professional experience to mental health and housing advocacy. After experiencing homelessness myself, I know how overwhelming it can feel to navigate housing and community resources. Today, I work in homelessness prevention, helping individuals and families find stability, hope, and the support they deserve.

One of my biggest accomplishments is buying my own home, where my family and I are building a little hobby farm. My son is active in 4-H, and together we care for goats, meat chickens, guinea pigs, two very regal jumping spiders, a dog, and a cat. We also love growing garlic and learning more about sustainable living.

When I’m not working or volunteering, you’ll probably find me brewing kombucha to share with family and friends or bartending weddings and special events. I love bringing people together and building connections wherever I can.

I’m honored to serve on the NAMI board and hope to use both my personal journey and professional experience to help make our community a place where everyone feels supported, valued, and never alone.
