The Buxton Civic Association is saddened to share that another oceanfront home collapsed overnight.

Please be aware that beach closures are in place while debris is collected and removed. For your safety, follow all posted closures and avoid affected areas.

The BCA hopes to help organize a community cleanup north of the FUDS site, including the oceanside area of Old Lighthouse Road. We will share additional details as plans develop.

For the latest information on beach closures, cleanup operations, and ongoing response efforts, please follow The Island Free Press, North Carolina Beach Buggy Association and Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Thank you to everyone involved in the cleanup and recovery efforts.

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, the Buxton Civic Association is looking forward to a beautiful weekend in our village — with open beaches, movement in the right direction on beach nourishment, and the jetty project now permitted and approved.

Over the past two years, so many people have stepped up to support our efforts to make Buxton better, and we are incredibly thankful. Whether through beach cleanups, Christmas lights, scholarships, community events, or simply showing up and staying involved, this village continues to prove how special it is.

This weekend, while we enjoy time with family and friends, let us also remember the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. May we honor them not only in remembrance, but by continuing to do the hard work of supporting and strengthening our community.

From all of us at the Buxton Civic Association — thank you, and we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day Weekend.

The local Keller Williams Office is using their RED Day on Thursday, May 14 to help welcome residents and visitors to Buxton by cleaning the stretch from Avon to Buxton. If you want to join in, you are welcome to meet up for breakfast or just jump in on the cleanup. You can reach out to Jayson Collier for additional information. BCA thanks KW for helping to beautify Buxton!

(Note: due to all the moving parts (and literal houses!) down Old Lighthouse Road, it is best to avoid that area at this time. We hope to be able to assist with that area soon)

Buxton Civic Association is representing our community in Emerald Isle at the North Carolina Beach, Inlet & Waterway Association conference.

Pictured here: Brian Harris, Heather Jennette, and Dare County Commissioner Mary Ellon Ballance, who were on the agenda this morning sharing an update on Buxton.

“We were proud to follow up with coastal partners from across the state to share the progress that has been made and the challenges that continue. Thank you to NCBIWA for having us on the agenda and helping us make continued connections.” — Heather Jennette

It’s important that Buxton has a voice in these conversations, and we’re grateful to be part of the ongoing work happening across North Carolina’s coast.

We were so pleased to be part of Earth & Art Day celebrating the opening of the new boardwalk! 🌿

It was such a fun afternoon sharing a little about erosion with the community—watching kids (and plenty of adults!) jump in, experiment, and learn was the best part.

We’re really grateful for the opportunity to be included in such a great event.
Happy Earth Day! 🌎
