Another successful APAPA Butte County Youth Leadership Academy is in the books! 🎉

On June 8, we welcomed 48 students from communities across Northern California to Chico State for a day of leadership, learning, and inspiration. Students participated in sessions on financial literacy, STEM, mental health, college admissions, high school success, architecture and interior design, and career exploration, led by outstanding professionals, educators, and student leaders.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated speakers, panelists, volunteers, and our incredible YLA Committee—Lily Tao, Shasha Iwabuchi, Elias Hu, Aaron Liu, Kai Mattman, Zayd Mohiuddin, Kaili Nitzky, and Allison Thao—for their outstanding leadership and hard work in making this event a success.

We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors for their generous support: North Valley Community Foundation, Chico State College of Natural Sciences, Chico State Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, APIC, LaFamilia Mexican Restaurant, and Savor Ice Cream.

We’re so proud to recognize Lily Tao for her outstanding leadership and dedication to our community!

Lily has been actively involved with the APAPA Butte County Chapter’s Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) for the past four years. As this year’s YLA Co-Chair, she led an amazing team of youth leaders to organize another successful academy last month.

In recognition of her leadership, service, and many other achievements, Lily was also selected as one of the Grand Marshals for Chico’s 4th of July Parade—an incredible honor and a well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations, Lily! Thank you for inspiring the next generation of leaders. We can’t wait to see all you’ll accomplish next! 🎉👏

From Chico to Capitol Hill—look at our former intern Shrawani Thapa now!

Last summer, Shrawani Thapa interned with the Butte County Office of Education under the mentorship of Superintendent Mary Sakuma. This summer, she’s interning in Congressman Mark Takano’s Washington, D.C. office.

We’re incredibly proud of Shrawani and all she’s accomplished. Congratulations on this exciting milestone—we can’t wait to see what you do next!

Happy 250th birthday to USA! Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸🎆

Today, the APAPA Butte County Chapter proudly participated in the Chico 4th of July Parade for the first time! As our chapter celebrates four years of serving the community, this was a wonderful opportunity to introduce APAPA and our mission to the Chico community.

A big shout-out to our four amazing Little Lions! 🦁 They brought incredible energy and enthusiasm, performing in the summer heat and doing an outstanding job in their lion dance costumes.

The Asian Pacific American Public Affairs (APAPA) Butte County Chapter, with support from the Asian and Pacific Islander Council (APIC), is excited to invite middle and high school students to participate in the 2026 Youth Leadership Academy (YLA).

APAPA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in 2001 that is dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders through impactful leadership programs and community engagement. One of APAPA Butte County's signature programs is the Youth Leadership Academy, which is planned and led by local high school student leaders.

This year, student organizers have assembled an outstanding group of professionals, community leaders, and mentors to share their experiences and insights with participating students. Through presentations, discussions, and interactive activities, students will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, explore future career pathways, and connect with peers who share similar interests and aspirations.
