Thank you to anyone that has expressed interest in a board position. However, the Butler PFLAG chapter dissolution process is in the final stages, and is irreversible. The decision has been made.

Please visit Namibutler.org for information on new programs being offered and planned for our LGBTQ+ community. You may see some familiar faces! 😁

Please note that this page will no longer be monitored on a regular basis, and there will be no replies from the admin.

And remember: even though we are no longer members of a PFLAG chapter board, many of us are still working individually to make Butler a better place for you, our community.

Helping where we can, the best way that we can, has always been our focus. That won’t change. It will just look a little different. ❤️

Please reach out for support, educational materials, advocacy questions and concerns, to share your story, or with any other general question or concern. To reach our office, call (724) 431-0069, or fill out the form on our Contact page. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis please call or....

Full disclosure for anyone expressing interest in volunteering for board positions:

PFLAG National has instructed us on the required steps to close the chapter, which is necessary because there is no president or treasurer at this time. Operating as a chapter entity without “the core 3”, (President, Secretary, Treasurer) is forbidden and in violation of PFLAG National guidelines.

We have been sent an email from National detailing very strict guidelines that will need to be followed for AT LEAST 1 year if the decision is made to re-establish a Butler chapter.

Anyone interested in a board position should be aware that some of the original required paperwork was never completed/submitted to National, and would have to be started at the ground level.

No substantial fundraising was held in the 15 months we were a chapter. There are very minimal funds in the account.
Our agreement for a free monthly meeting space ends this year. Paid rental agreements will need made after that. Nonprofit insurance, PO Box fees, and other required fees will need paid also. Much of what this chapter accomplished regarding social events was paid out-of-pocket by board members.

It is necessary to convey this info to anyone who is thinking about volunteering. Your concern and caring mean so much to us, and it always has. But anything other than full transparency regarding the massive amount of time, effort, and funds re-instating this chapter would require would be misleading and irresponsible. We owe honesty to the community we served.

📚🌈 Support Inclusive Literature and programming at the New Castle Public Library 🌈📚

We are encouraging community members to take a small but meaningful step: write an email to the New Castle Public Library in support of q***r literature/programming and literature from minority based communities as well as being available on library shelves for all ages.

This outreach is about showing proactive support for inclusion, representation, and access to diverse stories.

Libraries should be places where every member of the community can see themselves represented, learn about others, and feel a sense of belonging.

Small actions like sending a respectful email matter more than we often realize. These efforts help challenge broader national narratives that call for limiting or removing certain voices, and they play an important role in helping minority communities maintain visibility and access to their rights.

Libraries are spaces for learning, discovery, and belonging. When shelves reflect the full diversity of our community, everyone benefits.

📧 Library Board Email:
[email protected]

The next New Castle Public Library board meeting will be held February 17th at 4:30 p.m.

If you believe in inclusive access to literature, we encourage you to make your voice heard. 💜📖

⭐️This is an example email you are more than welcome to use⭐️

Dear Members of the New Castle Public Library Board,

I am writing as a community member to express my strong support for the continued inclusion of LGBTQIA+ literature and programming, as well as materials and events that represent marginalized and minority communities, at the New Castle Public Library.

Public libraries exist to serve everyone. They are one of the few truly shared civic spaces where people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities should be able to see themselves reflected, respected, and represented. Access to diverse books, educational resources, and programming is not a special interest it is a core function of a public library.

I want to be clear that I do not support censorship in any form. I also do not believe that the discomfort of a few should be allowed to suppress the voices, stories, and lived experiences of many. Limiting or removing materials because they reflect q***r identities or marginalized communities undermines intellectual freedom and the mission of a public library.

Representation matters. For q***r youth, for families, for people of color, for immigrants, and for anyone who has historically been excluded, the library can be a lifeline a place of safety, learning, and belonging. Inclusive collections and programming do not harm anyone; they expand understanding, empathy, and opportunity for all.

I respectfully urge the Board to continue standing for:
Intellectual freedom
Diverse and representative collections
Inclusive, community-centered programming
Libraries as safe and welcoming spaces for all people

The New Castle Public Library should remain a place where everyone can learn without fear, explore without restriction, and exist without erasure.

Thank you for your time, your service, and your commitment to the entire community.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

2026 is the year of intersectional action. As the Trump administration continues to push its authoritarian agenda, the collective power of Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and all other marginalized peoples grows stronger, uniting as one unstoppable force in the pursuit of justice.

The work of the Civil Rights Movement was the culmination of millions of Americans coordinating through powerful grassroots organization over the span of several years. It was not quick, it was not easy, and countless lives—including leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X—were lost in this fight. Though the ultimate goal of ending segregation was achieved, it is more clear than ever that the work for collective social justice is far from over.

In the words of Angela Davis, Black le***an civil rights activist, philosopher, and writer: “Justice is indivisible. You can't decide who gets civil rights and who doesn't.”

This Black History Month, as every month, we rise in solidarity with our Black LGBTQ+ loved ones, and commit ourselves to the fight for intersectional justice.

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Tell Your Senators to reject ICE funding NOW!

The U.S. Senate will vote on whether to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) soon. It is critical that you contact your U.S. Senators immediately and urge them to oppose any DHS funding package that includes funding for ICE.
What is happening in Minneapolis and in communities across the country is unacceptable. Families are being torn apart. People are being terrorized in their homes, schools, and workplaces.

This violence is not isolated—and it must not be tolerated.

💖✨ Paint It Forward: Random Acts of Kindness ✨💖
in partnership with Butler PFLAG

Join us in celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day by creating something meaningful for those who need a little extra love.

During Paint It Forward, guests will purchase and paint a vase, make it beautiful, and write an encouraging message. We’ll finish each piece with faux flowers and deliver them to the Cancer Center on Oneida Valley Road, where they will be handed out to patients receiving chemotherapy.

This is a simple, powerful way to spread kindness, creativity, and connection through art.

✨ How it works:
• Purchase and paint a vase at the studio
• Write an uplifting message for someone going through treatment
• We’ll add faux flowers and handle delivery

🖌️ Painting Dates:
February 15th–22nd (during regular studio hours)

🌈 Want to learn more about PFLAG?
Representatives from Butler PFLAG will be at the studio on
📅 February 17th at 6:00 PM
to share about their club and the positive impact they make in our community.

Whether you paint one piece or many, every vase helps brighten someone’s day.

💗 Because kindness always matters — and art makes it even more powerful.
