On September 11, we remember the first responders who answered the call without hesitation, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the countless men and women whose lives were forever changed by that day.

This September 11, the Vermont Fraternal Order of Police is proud to partner with The Quell Foundation to co-host a special screening of their award-winning documentary, First Responders Sound the Alarm.

The film tells the stories of first responders and their families while confronting an issue that our profession has historically struggled to talk about: the cumulative impact that a career of responding to other people's worst days can have on those who serve.

Through the experiences of police officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, dispatchers, family members, and clinicians, First Responders Sound the Alarm examines occupational trauma, mental health, su***de, the stigma that can prevent first responders from asking for help, and the need for resources and treatment that truly understand first-responder culture.

For the Vermont FOP, supporting our members means more than protecting wages, benefits, and working conditions. It also means supporting the men and women behind the badge and working to ensure that asking for help is viewed as a sign of strength—not weakness.

There may be no more appropriate day for that conversation than September 11.

As Vermonters go to the polls, VTFOP would like to offer our endorsement of several candidates for office.

VTFOP is proud to endorse Dan Gamelin for Chittenden County Sheriff and Paul McManus for High Bailiff.

VTFOP is also proud to endorse Chris Norton for Windsor County Sheriff.

Please see the attached endorsement letters for why VTFOP has chosen to endorse these candidates. Endorsement is not something we take lightly and we want to have foundational arguments for why we are supporting a candidate that are based in facts, experience, and truth.

Vermont FOP is hosting a FREE training on August 12-13, 2026 from 8am-4pm each day.

Struggle Well is being brought up to Vermont to deliver training focused on first responder wellness, specifically focusing on practices and principles of Post Traumatic Growth.

Struggle Well is singularly focused on the well-being of military personnel and first responders. The State Lodge is excited to bring their expertise to Vermont.

A great gesture by OY6 Bourbon to commemorate and remember Investigator Eugene Gaiotti who, in 1989, gave his life in service to keeping Vermonters safe.

The Gaiotti legacy of public service continues today. Eugene’s son, William Gaiotti, still serves at Rutland City Police Department and we are proud to have him as a member of Lodge 410.

To the entire Gaiotti family, thank you for sharing so many members of your family with us and thank you for your legacy of service to Vermonters.
