💙💛100th State FFA Convention💙💛

Burlington FFA members attended the 100th State FFA Convention in Tulsa, Ok. Our highlights include:

🔥Wyatt Morgan was selected as one of 100 FFA members from across the state to sing onstage as part of the State FFA Chorus.

🎤Lauren Thomason was selected (for the 2nd year in a row!) to showcase her talents in the FFA Talent competition.

🏆Cash Dotson was 3rd place with his diversified crop production placement proficiency.

🏆🏆Kyden Archuleta & Colton Hess received their State FFA Degree. This is the highest degree that can be awarded on the state level. This is awarded based on outstanding SAE and FFA involvement.

Congratulations on an outstanding year. Your continuous hard work paid off and we could not be more proud.

Yesterday, the Burlington FFA Officer Team traveled to the state capitol to witness the House of Representatives vote on SB2159. This bill held special significance for our chapter, as it was a goal we set earlier this summer. At the time, Oklahoma was one of only ten states in the nation without an official state crop. Being located in Alfalfa County, “wheat country” our members recognized an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

The team began the process by drafting legislation and sharing their vision with Senator Pederson. From there, Burlington FFA members closely followed the bill’s progress as it moved through committees and successfully passed the Senate. Yesterday marked a major milestone, as the team saw their hard work come to fruition when the bill passed in the House. This was the final stage before now heading to Governor Stitt’s desk to be signed into law. This experience gave our members an opportunity to learn about the legislative process, how to write a bill, how bills are presented in committees and passing off the floor of each chamber.

There to witness and in support of this legislation were members of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the Dean of the Ferguson College of Agriculture, Dr. Lusk, and renowned wheat breeder and researcher, Dr. Brett Carver. This achievement was no small feat, and it would not have been possible without the support of several individuals who guided and encouraged us throughout this endeavor. Specifically, Senator Pederson and Representative Travis for sponsoring the bill - none of this would have been possible without your help and guidance.

Huge congratulations to Cash Dotson for earning a spot as a state finalist in the Diversified Crop Production Proficiency Division! Being named a finalist means he is ranked in the top three in the entire state. We can’t wait to see how it all turns out at the State FFA Convention in May!
