The Farm Progress Show has brought farmers, producers and agribusiness professionals from around the world to Boone County this week. The event returns to Iowa every other year, giving our state an opportunity to showcase both where agriculture is headed and the deep roots that helped get us here.

Agriculture has shaped Iowa's landscape and communities for generations. Visitors may come for the newest technology and innovation, but their time here can introduce them to our agricultural heritage and much more of Iowa as they explore central Iowa and other parts of the state.

An event of this scale also demonstrates how far the visitor experience extends beyond the show grounds. Our partners at Discover Ames, Catch Des Moines, and CIT Signature Transportation have all played a role in supporting Farm Progress Show and the visitors it brings to Iowa.

That's an important tourism story in itself. Iowa has earned the attention of this audience because of something our state knows exceptionally well. Collaboration across communities helps us make more of the opportunity once they're here.

The The Great River Road is one of those special Iowa tourism experiences that gets better the farther you travel. 🚗🌊 One river community leads to another, with 20 interpretive centers along the way helping travelers dig a little deeper into the people, places and stories of the Mississippi River. (Iowa Great River Road)

That's also what makes the route so valuable to Iowa tourism. The Great River Road connects communities across 10 counties, turning individual attractions and destinations into a much bigger travel experience. And those stops add up. More than $1.2 billion in visitor spending was generated across Iowa's Mississippi River counties in 2023.

September is Drive the Great River Road Month, and a great excuse to celebrate the communities and tourism partners who make Iowa's 328 miles worth taking the scenic route.

Silos & Smokestacks has spent 30 years helping people understand just how deeply agriculture has shaped Iowa. It’s in our landscape and communities, but also in the people, innovation and traditions that continue to influence our state.

Having a National Heritage Area dedicated to exploring those connections gives visitors a deeper understanding of Iowa and how we became the state we are today.

Congratulations to our partners at Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area on 30 years!

Iowa's lakefront experiences are one of those things that can surprise people who don't know our state well. 🌊 From longtime lake destinations to smaller communities where the water is an important part of the visitor experience, there are plenty of places to enjoy an Iowa summer on the water.

Travel magazine recently highlighted 9 Iowa lake towns worth exploring, and the timing still feels pretty good. School may be back in session, but warm summer days aren't behind us yet. There's still plenty of time for another lake day or weekend getaway. ☀️

More than 1.2 million people walked through the gates of the Iowa State Fair this year. That's a new attendance record, but what those numbers mean for is even more worth celebrating. 🎉

The Iowa State Fair is a front door to our state. For some, it's the reason they come to Iowa. For others, it's an experience they add while they're already here. Over the last 11 days, it's been fun to see visitors share how they extended their trips by a day or two just to fit in time at the Fair.

That means more overnight stays, more meals, more stops and more time experiencing Iowa. But just as importantly, the Fair gives more than a million people the chance to see a little of who we are and what makes this state special.

Congratulations to our friends at the Iowa State Fair on a record-setting year and another incredible showcase for Iowa! 👏

Last week, while celebrating one of Iowa’s most beloved traditions, iTIP had the opportunity to recognize Governor Kim Reynolds for her support of Iowa’s tourism industry.

Throughout her time as Governor, she has understood the value tourism brings to our state and the importance of investing in the experiences, destinations and events that give people a reason to explore Iowa. From major opportunities that have put Iowa on a national stage to investments that have strengthened tourism in communities across the state, that support has made an impact.

A special thank you to our partners at the Iowa State Fair for making this recognition possible. The Fair has a special way of bringing people together, making it a fitting place to celebrate the people and partnerships that continue to move Iowa tourism forward.

While traveling last week, I needed a place to stop for a virtual meeting and the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center was kind enough to welcome me in. It certainly didn't hurt that my temporary office was in such a beautiful setting.

One of the things I value about Iowa's tourism industry is the way we support each other. Sometimes that's sharing expertise or making an introduction. Other times, it's simply giving someone a place to land between stops on a busy travel day.

Those relationships make it easier for all of us to do our work and strengthen the connections that move Iowa tourism forward.

Thank you to the Hyatt Regency Coralville team for the hospitality and for being a great iTIP partner!

Within a matter of weeks, Iowa is welcoming some pretty incredible crowds. NASCAR at the Iowa Speedway, the AAU Junior Olympic Games with Catch Des Moines, the Iowa State Fair, the Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway, and Major League Baseball at the The Field of Dreams Movie Site are all putting Iowa on a national stage. 🌽🏁⚾🌭

Iowa hosts major events throughout the year, but seeing so many come together in one stretch provides a powerful look at what tourism means to our state. Hotels filled. Restaurants and businesses welcoming new customers. Visitors experiencing communities they may have never known before. And Iowa gets the kind of national exposure that is difficult to replicate.

But perhaps the bigger story is how these opportunities get here.

Major events aren't won overnight. Communities spend years building relationships, investing in facilities, developing partnerships and proving they can deliver. Then they do it again. Each success builds trust, strengthens Iowa's reputation and creates a stronger case for the next opportunity.

That's tourism at work. And right now, Iowa has a lot to be proud of. 👏

There is something pretty special about Iowa being home to a Presidential Library. Herbert Hoover is our state's only president, and West Branch is where visitors can experience his story and legacy as part of our nation's history. 🇺🇸

After being closed for 18 months, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum is back, and wow, what a transformation. The $20 million reimagining didn't just update the exhibits. It completely changed how Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover's stories are told. The museum is interactive, thoughtful and absolutely stunning. You leave with a much better sense of who these two Iowans were and the incredible lives they lived.

As America celebrates its 250th, it feels especially fitting to have the doors open again. The Hoover Museum is now the newest museum experience in the National Archives Presidential Library system, and it is one Iowa can be incredibly proud of. Congratulations to our friends at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum and everyone who poured so much into bringing this vision to life! ️🇺🇸
