“Time passes, memories fade, feelings change, people leave, but hearts never forget.”

The past two months have tested us in ways we never would’ve imagined, but it has also shown us the power of love and community. Every day I wake up thankful for the people I’ve met, the lives I’ve touched, and the team I call my own.

Thank you to all the amazing folks who have helped us to help others. No matter how big or small, every action has contributed to the lives we’ve changed and the effect we’ve had on our community.

And a huge thank you to our team members here at MAP who have stuck with us through all the hurtles and challenging days, continuing to help out every day with smiles on their faces.

The Mountain Aid Project wishes everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!

Happy thanksgiving everyone! I’m back home here in VA through thanksgiving then will be heading back down to NC. I wanted to give everyone an update about what I’ve been up to-

The team of volunteers I was working with in Western North Carolina has offically turned into a nonprofit called the Mountain Aid Project (M.A.P.). Our biggest need right now is monetary donations so we can support our community as they transition into the rebuilding phase of everything.

Here’s the link with all the info for our organization:
https://linktr.ee/Mountain.Aid.Project

Our team is working hard to support the community, especially as the weather continues to get colder!

We are still accepting physical supplies from this list (no clothing please):

Electric and propane heaters
Butane
20lb propane and propane tanks (we can refill empty ones)
Adapter hoses for buddy heaters to connect to 20lb tanks
Camping showers
2-4 person tents
Foldable sleeping cots
Battery-powered air pumps for air mattresses
Batteries
8 gauge nails
Screws
Bar oil
2 cycle oil
Bars and skip link chains (16", 20", and 24". Oregon brand is universal)
Solar anything!
Damp-rid
Dehumidifiers
Air filters/purifiers
Box fans
Generators
Battery banks

Feel free to message me with any questions!

Hey everyone! Here is the long awaited update-

Lots has happened in the past week, more than I’m able to explain, but we have moved to a warehouse and are continuing to expand our operation to help those in the mountains. Despite what is (or isn’t) being shown on the news, the communities down here STILL NEED HELP! The work is only getting started.

The first few waves of supplies have brought the essentials like food, water, and clothing. We’re now looking for items needed to set everyone up for longer term living as well as some needs for the warehouse we’ve been operating out of. Like many of the residents, our operation center is still without power and water. Once the sun starts to go down we’ve been working with headlamps in the dark. We desperately need lights that are easy to put up and move around like patio string lights. We do have two construction lights on one side of the warehouse, but they’re so bright they’re blinding everyone coming in and out so we’re not currently looking for any more of those. To make supplies more accessible for the community we’re also looking for clothing racks (for coats) and folding tables.

We are NOT in need of anything that is not on this list. Storage is extremely limited in these areas so we’re trying to keep excess items to a minimum. Feel free to leave a comment with any questions. Thank you everyone!

Drop off location is pinned in a separate post at the top of this page

Another day coming to an end at headquarters in black mountain NC. Photos as we started to cover our supplies with tarps for the night. For the last two days I’ve been running our supply center down here while we got seventeen teams out in the feild bringing these supplies to those who need it. It may not look like much in these photos, but zoom in on those people and you’ll be able to get a better idea of the scale of it all. I’ve been working 12 hour days then picking up security shifts at night. Our grounds need 24/7 security due to looters. Last night we had some close calls, hopefully tonight is quieter.

I know a lot of people are curious to see the devastation, but for privacy reasons I will not be sharing any of those photos. These people have lost everything- their homes, their jobs, their businesses, their family, their neighbors, their livestock…. everything. They have expressed that they do not need anymore publication, the last two weeks have been enough for them in terms of social media and tv presence. These residents are worn out and need time to heal.

Our wonderful volunteer Debbie Stark sucessfully dropped off a full SUV load of supplies in Forsyth today! Thank you Debbie!

I am currently at black mountain with an amazing group of volunteers. Debbie was our point person for the animal supplies and I was hauling most of the human supplies. People were VERY grateful for the sleeping bags, it’s cold out here! Took a little break since I was driving all day (9hrs), and now I’m about to go out and do a security shift. Looting has been a huge issue recently, and with this many supplies they need multiple people on watch at all times.

Hey everyone! I completed my last drop yesterday morning at Forsyth Humane Society and returned home late last night. Forsyth is outside of the disaster zone and is going in and out of western NC to bring supplies to the area shelters and transport animals. They have a stellar team of volunteers and staff, as well as a plane to fly thousands of pounds of supplies in at a time.

The staff was so grateful for the donations from ya’ll, and even said “it’s like Christmas” as we unloaded the truck.

I was told despite how much supplies they’re already recived, this will all be gone by Tuesday as they continue to transport loads and loads of supplies into western NC.

Hold tight as I work on the details of our next trips in the coming days. Speaking to a church today about a designated drop off point and supply storage.

Here are more photos of that first drop off location with the Elk Mills fire department, this is a little higher up in Poga area (mountain). The children taking supplies from the trailer we loaded eariler today is so touching. This is where your donations are going to. They specifically mentioned wanting powered eggs and milk but are having a hard time finding any. That’ll be added to the list for the next trip! I’m sure we could track stuff down. Baby wipes too, everyone wants baby wipes.
