In Memory Of Howard Call - Longtime HHS Alumni Foundation President, Highline Teacher, Coach, and Mentor

Howard Call passed in late March of this year. Howard was an outstanding leader and mentor at Highline High School as a teacher and coach. After retiring, Howard joined the Highline High School Alumni Foundation and served as President from 2004 until 2015. Under his leadership, the Alumni Foundation significantly increased fundraising to help create additional scholarships for Highline seniors. Howard and friends initiated the Highline Alumni golf tournament which now generates proceeds exceeding $12,000 per year. During his long service to Highline and the greater Burien community, Howard was also instrumental in establishing the Highline High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Alumnus of the Year programs.

Highline High School Alumni Foundation Announces Largest-Ever Scholarship Awards

The senior class at Highline High School got the good news at the Senior Assembly that the Highline High School Alumni Foundation will be awarding 25 scholarships to graduating seniors for their college education totaling a record $101,000.

The newest HHSAF scholarship is the "Tony Hayes/Classic Eats Culinary Arts" scholarship that – along with a $4,000 award – includes a paid internship at Classic Eats restaurant, a new chef's knife kit, and a new chef's jacket.

In 2025, Tony Hayes, owner and operator of Classic Eats, was named the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus by the HHSAF in recognition for his leadership while a student at Highline High School and in the Highline community. He wanted to find a way to "pay it forward" in his community and worked with the HHSAF to create this new scholarship that will be awarded each year to a graduating Pirate.
