Firefighter Cancer Support Network, California

Firefighter Cancer Support Network, California We support firefighters, EMS providers and their families when diagnosed with occupational cancer We do not provide legal or medical advice.

We provide critical assistance for career or volunteer, active or retired firefighters, emergency medical service providers, and their immediate family members who have been diagnosed with cancer. We deliver valuable post-diagnosis resources followed by unique badge to badge, one-on-one mentorship from one of our 220 fire-service mentors who have first-hand knowledge about battling cancer. They s

hare their survivor’s journey about their particular types of cancer, their own experiences with testing and treatments, and offer valuable insight into the recovery process. Within days, we deploy an FCSN signature toolbox free of charge. Our toolbox contains valuable resources, including our comprehensive Firefighter’s Guide to Cancer Survivorship, to help you stay organized, informed, and effectively communicate with your doctors, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in the fire service. Most importantly, the toolbox will remind you every day that you are not alone. Our dedicated team will be by you and your family’s side from diagnosis, through treatment to recovery. Disclaimer: The Firefighter Cancer Support Network is a volunteer group of cancer survivors, whose objective is to provide timely support to Fire Department employees (and immediate family members) diagnosed with any form of cancer, or who are dealing with ongoing cancer issues. Our mission is to provide comfort, strength and hope through our own personal experiences. We will also provide other support options such as the Department Chaplains, Behavioral Health Services and other cancer support programs. 🚒 Fire Service Brotherhood in Action 💜

When one of our own needs support, the fire service shows up—no matter where they come from. 🇺🇸

When California firefighter Derek Cochnauer traveled to New York for cancer treatment, FCSN New York State Director Les Saltzman and California State Director Scott Jennie worked together to make sure Derek had support while he was far from home. 🤝💜

A huge thank you to FDNY 🚒🔥 for welcoming Derek and standing beside a brother firefighter from California. The support shown in this photo is a powerful reminder that the fire service family has no boundaries—a firefighter from across the country is still one of our own. 👨‍🚒❤️‍🩹👩‍🚒

This is what brotherhood looks like. 🤝
This is what taking care of our own looks like. ❤️

💜 No firefighter should face cancer alone. 💜

🔥 The fire may be out… but the exposure isn’t.

Cancer-causing contaminants don’t disappear when the flames are knocked down. During overhaul and after the call, firefighters can still be exposed to harmful gases, particulates, and toxic residue.

🚒 Protect yourself.
🏠 Protect your family.
👨‍🚒 Protect your future.

Simple habits make a difference:
🧼 Decon your gear
🚿 Shower within the hour
🧺 Wash contaminated gear properly
🚫 Don’t take the fire home

Every exposure counts.
Every decision matters.

“We don’t just fear, but we’re quite confident that we’re going to see health impacts with our firefighters who fought [Palisades and Eaton] fires on the front lines,” said Dave Gillotte, a captain with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and president of the Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014.

The Firefighter profession is dangerous. is critically important to protect the health and safety of California's firefighters.

🤝❤️ When organizations come together with a shared mission, lives are changed.

The Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) and Shield 23 Foundation are honored to stand together in support of firefighter Micah Wennekamp and his family as they navigate his battle with cancer.

Like so many families facing a cancer diagnosis, Micah’s family is experiencing significant financial hardship. 💙 In an incredible act of generosity, Shield 23 Foundation traveled all the way from Illinois to stand beside Micah and presented his family with a significant financial donation to help ease the burden during this difficult time. Their compassion and commitment to taking care of our own embody the very best of the fire service. 🚒

A heartfelt thank you to CAL FIRE San Diego County for graciously hosting this special gathering and providing lunch for everyone in attendance. Your generosity, hospitality, and unwavering support for our fire service family made this day even more meaningful. 🙏❤️

Cancer doesn’t just affect one firefighter—it impacts an entire family, department, and community. Together, we’re reminding Micah and his loved ones that they are never alone. ❤️

Please keep Micah and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue this fight. Together, we are stronger. 💪
