This is sad. This was a great location with great food. Prices were fair and the staff was very welcoming. You guys will be missed.🚫👻
Ritz Diner As Seen In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Closed!
Today we report a minor loss in regards to those who annually do a New York City pilgrimage for Ghostbusters Day or even just recreationally, and also do location tours.
It seems as though the real life stand in for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's Melody Diner (The Ritz) has officially closed its doors for good.
While off the beaten path generally speaking for most Ghostbusters locations, many fans would make the extra trek to NYC's east side for some good, affordable eats, and to take in the scenery of the diner. A large group even stormed the eatery this past year following Yes Have Some Podcast's pre Ghostbusters Day event. Surely a crowd the diner was not used to seeing.
The Ritz Diner originally opened in 1930, and since 1999 has been owned by George Kalogerakos, who has since decided to close the location as well as a few of his others and merge them with the Tramway Diner just a block away.
The diner serves as an incredible, vibrant location in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. It's neon accents popping against a NY night background where we'd see Phoebe and Podcast on a rogue mission to catch a late night specter. Unfortunately they promptly get ghosted as Melody decides to dine and dash.
As this was a MUST stop location and much welcome break on our personal NY Ghostbusters Day trips, it'll be greatly missed.
Were you among the fans who had a chance to enjoy the Ritz Diner when it was still open? Sound off, cadets!
Shout out to our NYC correspondent Todd Corrigan for the heads up.
