June 9th Rotary Meeting Recap
Our Presidential Transition and Awards Celebration will be held at Laura's home on June 23 starting at 5pm. We hope to see everyone there as we celebrate our first year as a club and welcome Marie Snyder as our incoming President.
The 50/50 Raffle has been extended until approximately August 1 to allow additional ticket sales and promotion. Please continue sharing the raffle information with friends, family, and community members.
Marie introduced the concept of exploring a signature annual fundraiser, potentially a Rotary Ball or Gala. Members interested in helping evaluate this idea are encouraged to volunteer for the exploratory committee.
Jeanette Marlowe reported on the successful Louisa Autism Awareness Conference and suggested Rotary consider hosting an informational booth at future community events.
Jody Korman announced that Louisa Clean received an $8,000 Amazon grant to support a load-cover initiative at county refuse centers. Volunteer opportunities will be available to assist with assembly and distribution.
Our featured speaker, Harry Looney, provided an outstanding overview of:
The roles of the Lake Anna Civic Association (LACA) and Lake Anna Advisory Committee (LAAC)
Ongoing water quality monitoring and research efforts
Phosphorus remediation projects in the upper lake
Current hydrilla treatment strategies
New technologies and long-term plans for managing invasive aquatic vegetation
Harry emphasized the importance of science-based management, regional cooperation, and continued monitoring to protect the health and recreational value of Lake Anna.
Thank you to Harry for sharing his expertise and to all members who continue to support our club's mission of Service Above Self.
The full meeting summary is attached for your review.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming Transition and Awards Celebration!
Yours in Rotary,
Kelly Boyle, Secretary
