The Adrian Empire

The Adrian Empire The Adrian Empire Page dedicated to chivalry, Combat, Archery, and Arts from the Middle Ages The Adrian Empire was founded 29 years ago.

Today it consists of 32 chapters
from British Columbia to Florida. We are dedicated to the study and re-
creation of Western European culture between the Battle of Hastings (the year
1066) and the end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England (the year
1603). We re-create the arts, skills, and culture of the Middle Ages and
Renaissance. Chapters hold monthly combat, archery, and arts tourna

ments. Annual "wars" and
“collegia” are held Empire-wide. At Adrian events, you will discover historical costume, period encampments,
chivalry and honor in everything we do. Activities:
Combat, Archery, and Arts Tournaments (Live Armored Combat with real steel
weapons, 16th and 17th Century Fencing, Traditional Archery, Historical Arts
and Crafts)

ICW 2024 Combat Scenarios

Theme: England Vs France

(Local ministers may alter scenarios as they deem necessary to accommodate army size)

Steel Scenarios (no combat archery in any steel scenarios)

Battle of Agincourt - heavy steel fighters stuck in knee deep mud!

Marshals will position armies within relatively close distance from each other (15 feet or so). Fighters can position themselves into formation as they see fit at that distance. When lay on is called, fighters may only move ONE step every six seconds. (As called by the marshals who will count down from six to one and then yell “step!”) Any fighter moving more than one step at a time is eliminated. Last man standing. All steel legal weapons allowed. Death from behind allowed if you can somehow pull it off.

Battle of Formigny

Steel open field. Last man standing. All steel legal weapons allowed. Death from behind allowed.

Steel Champions - “The Last Knight”

One champion chosen from each army but the pool of combatants to be selected as champions are restricted as follows: 1st combatant- automatically will be the last person killed in scenario 2. Second combatant- may be chosen from any of the SURVIVING combatants from the winning army of scenario 2. Best two of three passes, all steel legal weapons allowed.

Rapier scenarios

Battle of Pont du Feneau

Bridge battle. All combat must take place on the bridge. Combatants who back off the bridge after entering are considered dead. Bridge walls are infinitely high (no throwing shots around bridge walls) Last man standing. All rapier legal weapons allowed. No combat archery.

Battle of Crecy

NO bucklers. Combat archery encouraged. Archers may carry three arrows and no more. If archers are present, archers will line up behind the rest of their army. When lay on is called, no combatants can move forward until archers have fired three volleys of arrows. Archers must fire their arrows “clout style” meaning at an angle of 30 degrees or more. Any arrows fired less than 30 degree angle that strike will not be counted. Arrows must be released in three separate volleys where all archers fire at once. Combatants may dodge/sidestep arrows if able.

Once the archery portion is completed, combatants may advance into a standard open field battle. Archers may bring weapons to the field and pick them up once arrows exhausted. No gleaning. All other rapier legal weapons allowed other than bucklers. Death from behind allowed. No javelins.

Rapier champions battle - “It comes down to this”

Your armies have been depleted to the point where squires must win the day.

Each army will select a fighter with the LEAST combat experience as their champion. Best two out of three passes. All rapier legal weapons allowed.

Shinai scenarios

Battle of Castillon

Castle siege. Each army will take a turn occupying a castle zone. Attacking army has unlimited resurrections. Defending army has none. Battles will be timed; whichever army holds the castle the longest wins. (If the second army defending outlasts the first, combat shall be immediately stopped as soon as the “time to beat” is reached) All shinai legal weapons allowed. No combat archery.

Battle of Bouvines

Open field battle. Last man standing. All shinai legal weapons allowed. Death from behind allowed. Combat archery allowed. Each archer may carry up to six arrows. No gleaning. No javelins.

Battle of Patay

Kill the GENERALS. Plural.

Each army will select not one, not two, but THREE generals which will be made known to all. Each army has unlimited resurrections until all three of their generals have been killed (generals may not resurrect). Once all three generals have been killed, surviving fighters for that army may fight on, just without resurrections. Last man standing. All shinai legal weapons allowed. Combat archery allowed. Archers may bring as many arrows as they can carry on their person. Gleaning allowed. Javelins allowed. Death from behind allowed.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
