I wanted to let you know of an opportunity to take a free online course on Truck Stop Chaplaincy. A mechanic is always looking for more relevant tools to be of better service when the driver comes in with a breakdown. One of David’s traits that made him a man after God’s own heart is that, though not perfect, he remained teachable.

Christian Leaders Institute offers free online classes as well as full degree programs. Last year their President, Henry Reyenga, contacted TMI to see about partnering with us. They have a Chaplain program and wanted to offer a Truck Stop Chaplaincy specific course. Last November, I got to go to Florida and spend the day filming the video portion of the course with Henry. It is a free 12 segment course that is up and running now. If you go to christianleaders.org and find “Free online courses” or “Mini courses” and type in “truck stop chaplaincy”, you will find the course. I think it is a good one for the experienced Chaplain to maybe find another tool for that toolbox. Also, it would be good for new Chaplains or someone considering truck stop chaplaincy.

God bless y’all, Chaplain Monty

Grateful to share truck stop ministry and Truckstop Ministries, Inc at the missions night at Bethel Baptist Church last night.

Last night, an old truck driver parked beside me kept apologizing every time he asked someone for help climbing out of his truck.

That stayed on my mind longer than it should have.

His name was Eddie. Seventy-nine years old. He’s been driving trucks longer than many drivers today have been alive.

I met him at a truck stop outside Nashville.

He moved slowly. Hands shaking a little. Back worn down from decades of climbing in and out of cabs, loading freight, and living life on the road.

But the hardest part to watch was how embarrassed he felt needing help.

Every sentence started with, “Sorry to bother you…”

And all I could think was…

This man spent most of his life helping keep America moving. Through snowstorms, mountains, sleepless nights, missed holidays, birthdays, and funerals.

Now he felt guilty just asking someone to hold a door open.

We sat inside the truck stop drinking coffee while he told stories about old-school trucking.

No GPS. No smartphones. No fancy equipment.

“Back then truckers actually knew each other,” he laughed. “Now everybody just stares at their phones.”

Then he got quiet.

He looked around the truck stop and softly said, “Crazy how fast people forget you once you get old.”

That line hit hard.

A lot of older truckers are carrying pain nobody sees. Bad knees. Heart problems. Loneliness. Years of sacrifice. Memories of families they barely got to watch grow up because they spent their lives chasing loads to provide for the people they loved.

Before I left, I helped Eddie climb back into his truck.

He grabbed my arm and quietly said, “Thank you for treating me like I still matter.”

Man…

One day, every truck driver out here will become the older man walking slowly through a truck stop, hoping someone still sees him as human.

Respect the old drivers. They helped build the roads, industry, and country we all depend on today. 🚛🇺🇸

Dear Lord,
Thank you Lord because You became flesh and walked among us. Teach me to carry your presence on the road; in stillness, in kindness and in faithfulness. Let my life speak Your peace before my words ever do. May those that I come in contact with sense that You are near.
In Jesus name
Amen
