What happens when nonprofit leaders come together to learn from one another?

For Emily Perryman, Chief Marketing Officer of Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, the answer is connection, collaboration, and community impact.

Emily first discovered the Harvard Business School Club of Buffalo's Nonprofit Management Program through LinkedIn, where she saw local professionals sharing their experiences and insights from the program.

One of the aspects she valued most was the opportunity to engage with nonprofit leaders from across Western New York, exchanging ideas, discussing real-world challenges, and building relationships that extend beyond the classroom.

"The program really helps nonprofit leaders connect with one another, discover new resources and ideas, and strengthen our collective community impact."

When leaders learn together, entire communities benefit.

One of the biggest lessons Mikayla Pusatier has taken away from the Nonprofit Management Program is that organizational challenges are often more universal than we think.

As the founder of a first-year nonprofit serving more than 130 people, Mikayla was surprised to discover that many of the same leadership, communication, sustainability, and growth challenges she faces are also encountered by organizations with much larger budgets and teams.

"The scale may change, but the need for adaptability, strategy, and strong leadership does not."
Through case discussions, site visits, and conversations with fellow participants, Mikayla gained valuable insight from experienced nonprofit leaders while building skills she can apply as Miss Alternative Foundation continues to grow.

đź’ Her advice to other nonprofit leaders? Invest in your development early. Learning from the experiences of others can help accelerate your impact and strengthen your organization for the future.

One of Emily Perryman's biggest takeaways from the Nonprofit Management Program was a powerful lesson about leadership:

“Meaningful change rarely happens by maintaining the status quo.”

Through case discussions and conversations with fellow nonprofit leaders, Emily explored how effective leaders often need to challenge existing systems, ask difficult questions, and create space for organizations to evolve.

"Sometimes a leader's role is simply to spark change, shift thinking, or lay the groundwork for future progress."

As Chief Marketing Officer of Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, Emily understands that leadership isn't always about preserving stability. Often, it's about having the courage to drive change that strengthens an organization and increases its impact.

What happens when nonprofit leaders come together with a shared purpose?

For current NMP participant and CEO of Jericho Road Community Health Center , Allana Krolikowski, MD, the answer is simple: real opportunity for change.

“This program brings leaders together from nonprofits of all sizes and can serve as a catalyst for future change.”

With services that extend from Buffalo to global health initiatives in Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nepal, Jericho Road’s work reflects a commitment to care without borders.
Through the NMP, Allana is continuing to build connections, strengthen leadership, and explore how collective action can improve health and wellbeing across our region.

A powerful reminder that leadership is not just about what you build, but who you build it with.
