We're a month into the school year- let's check into our Teeing Off for Teacher's winner is doing!

This year the disc golfers that participated in Teeing Off for Teachers were more than happy to help a 1st grade teacher at Niagara Wheatfield, Elizabeth Potempa. Elizabeth was nominated by Rachel MacAlpine. When describing why this teacher was awesome, Rachel stated “She is the kind of teacher who gives her whole heart to both her students and her family. While teaching first grade full-time, she has also become the primary caregiver for her husband, who was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) at just 48 years old. Throughout years of uncertainty, appointments, testing, and ultimately his diagnosis, she has never stopped showing up for her students with compassion, patience, and dedication. Rather than allowing her family’s challenges to define her, she has turned them into a mission of service. She has written grants, organized community support fairs, partnered with the Alzheimer’s
Association, participated in research studies, advocated for dementia awareness, and continues to support countless other caregivers. Her faith, resilience, and determination inspire everyone around her. She teaches her students far more than reading and math. Every day, she models kindness,
perseverance, empathy, and hope. She is raising three children, caring for her husband, and still finds the energy to make a difference in her classroom and her community. She truly embodies what it means to be an exceptional educator and an extraordinary human being.”
BNDG is thankful to Elizabeth, and every other wonderful teacher out there, for using their time and energy to make a positive impact in this world! Mrs. Potempa shared some classroom photos with us and it is obvious how much she cares about her students!

*Autumn Bond Classic 2026 Recap*

A huge weekend of elite season sports in Western New York would not be complete without my favorite event of the season - the Autumn Bond Classic.Once again, our competitors at the ABC took on an autumnal Bond Lake Park looking to secure one of our maple syrup trophies. Here’s how we finished in 2026.

FA3: Jill Savage shot above her rating both rounds to take home the uncontested victory in this year’s ABC! Nice shooting Jill!

In MA3, the largest division of the event, Joel Morey went out to a four stroke lead after round one, and continued dominating the division, pulling ahead to finish nine strokes ahead of the closest competition in his first PDGA victory of his career! Congratulations Joel!

MA2: After one round, we had 5 players within a stroke of the lead, and one of them, Aidan Ogilvie, shot the hot round for his division in round two, including four straight birdies (10-13) en route to his second PDGA championship, and first in the MA2 division!

FA1 saw Oulayvanh Meister extend a first round lead to take down her sixth victory of the year, and second Treedirection circuit in a row (The Grand Islands V). Congratulations!

Our MA1 division was tight after the first round, with lead card all within a handful of strokes. Matt Cole found himself seven strokes back from the lead on chase card, but never gave up. After shooting a nearly unblemished -8 from the white tees, Cole clawed his way back into contention and landed on a playoff card with Corey Drozdz and Peter Torres. Matt Cole scored the lone birdie on the first playoff hole to secure the massive come from behind overtime victory!

And finally, in MPO it was Andres Ripley, who shot the scorching hot -13 during round two, leapfrogging his lead card competitors to take down the win by a single stoke, which he secured on the green of hole 18. Talk about coming in clutch to bring home the syrup!

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who helped make this event happen. Our wonderful board at Buffalo Niagara Disc Golf, the folks at Chalky Minis for the custom players packs, And, as always, thank you to Ece for another year of assistant tournament director duties! I couldn’t do it without you!

School has started, and we hope everyone has learned their ABCs...but ABC has a whole other meaning for disc golf! This weekend has one of Buffalo's favorite tournaments, and whether you're playing or watching, we can't wait to see you there!
