SNAP participants who lost their benefits due to the Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) time limit may be eligible again.

New York State began a new 36-month ABAWD tracking period on October 1, 2026. Anyone who lost benefits due to the ABAWD rule before October 1 can now reapply or ask to be added back to their household's case. If otherwise eligible, they can receive benefits for another three months or potentially longer if they can comply with the ABAWD rule or document an exemption.
