“My life is an act of service.”

October’s mindfully selected intention is a reflection on the quiet ways we show up for one another and our communities. May we move with purpose and lead with compassion in our everyday actions.

We’re delighted to share this SUNY Center for Professional Development Instructor Spotlight featuring our Founding Director, Dr. Lisa Napora, and her work teaching Mindful Leadership across the SUNY system.

The questions Lisa explores through this work are also central to our work at The Mindfulness Alliance: How might awareness-based practices support not only individual wellbeing, but collective wellbeing? What becomes possible as we move from separateness toward interconnectedness—from me to we?

Through practice and practice-in-action, we explore how greater awareness can shape the ways we relate, participate, and create together—opening new possibilities for cultures of greater care, connection, and collective wellbeing.

Discover the joy of purposeful reading by joining us for the Fall read: The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness by Rhonda V. Magee

This season’s selection takes a mindfulness approach to confront racial injustice and promote healing. Rhonda Magee is a university educator and mindfulness teacher.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimates that 10 million people each year are physically abused by an intimate partner; emotional, psychological, and financial abuse inflict different but significant harms.

The Mindfulness Alliance encourages individuals, advocates, and communities to take action to help stop intimate partner violence.

If you or someone you love is experiencing domestic violence, reach out to the National DV Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or chat online at thehotline.org. You are not alone!
