We see you, Gary Sczerbaniewicz! Confined Architectural Space and Psychological Unease is PechaKucha's presentation of the day. Looking good!

"I want to destabilize the viewer in relation to the work."

In "Confined Architectural Space and Psychological Unease" from PechaKucha Night Buffalo Vol. 14, artist, sculpture, and professor, Gary Sczerbaniewicz shares his practice involving an insatiable fascination with interior architectural spaces that evoke a sense of psychological unease. This compulsion toward an aesthetics of anxiety leads him to fabricate confined space environments which include-scale shifts-using architectural models seamlessly blended into full-sized structures - into which the viewer is invited to physically enter and explore.

Our friends at the Dreamland community arts space could use some support. They've faced some unexpected city permit issues and now need to make renovations. If you saw Dana Mcknight's kick-ass presentation at our 10th Anniversary PechaKucha Night, you know Dreamland is a true artist-run space in Allentown. They count on event donations to keep things rolling. Renovations and waiting for permits = no event income = tough situation. Please consider helping out. Thank you! ~Joanna

Hello, Friends! We are pleased to share recent presentations from our special edition in honor of the 50th year of the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning. It was an early morning session—without beer, I might add—but we had a fine time in the spectacularly renovated Hayes Hall revisiting some of the school's fruitful community partnerships in the Buffalo Niagara region across an arc of a half century. Have a look! (Scroll down to watch individual presentations.) Thank you, Bradshaw Hovey, Erkin Özay, Beth Tauke, Frank P***n, Edward Steinfeld and the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access, and Dean Robert Shibley.

Congratulations Jean-Michel Reed for capturing the eye of PechaKucha Tokyo to earn a prestigious Presentation of the Day distinction. Today is Collage City Day! You can see J-M's talk (from our September event at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, here:

"An architect, it seems, has to be an optimist and idealist. That by building we're somehow making the world a better place. But before you need buildings, you need people."
