Teams of 3 push decorated recycling bins along sidewalks, collect trash, spark conversations, and recharge at five “Power Stations” — bars themed around renewable energy. Core Philosophy, Purpose & Participation
RERUN is an awe-inspiring day of wonder, movement, and mutual care—where creativity and community unite to repair, restore, and regenerate. It’s a costumed spectacle so delightfully outlan
dish it makes people stop, rub their eyes, and shout:
“What in the world is that?!”
That spark of curiosity is the perfect opening. It’s when we get to share what it’s all about:
“This is RERUN—an annual costumed recycling bin race with a mission. You can too.”
We aim to offer simple ways for spectators and passersby to take action—from volunteering, to planting a tree, to taking a small regenerative step forward. And anyone curious will have easy ways to connect with a Council Member to learn more. Core Philosophy
RERUN is more than a day of fun. It’s a shift in worldview. It asks us to remember that we are not separate from nature—we are nature. We are one part of a living, breathing ecosystem, and our choices ripple across soil, air, water, creatures, and communities alike. Each year, RERUN becomes a space where Buffalo shows up—for one another and for the environment in which we all live. But more than that, it’s a chance to lift up all living things: trees, fungi, pollinators, waterways, and the unseen forces that sustain us. Through collective creativity, movement, and stewardship, we celebrate with gratitude this miraculous, interconnected web of life. We embody care not just as a value, but as a practice—and not only toward people, but toward the more-than-human world. This mindset shift isn’t optional. RERUN invites participants to express themselves freely and fiercely, but also to carry forward the values of inclusivity, humility, and ecological responsibility. Competition doesn’t preclude care. In fact, the best teams are the ones that uplift each other—and the world around them. Anything that undermines this harmony—disrespect, exploitation, discrimination, or environmental harm—has no place at RERUN. Our Core Beliefs
We are not above the ecosystem—we are part of it. The time to act isn’t someday. It’s every day—the movement runs year-round. Racing on Earth Day is a vital disruption—a public call-to-action that invites others to rerun the system. Participation is not a sideshow—it is the show. A Different Kind of Economy
RERUN operates under the principle of decommodification. We value what money can’t buy: time, creativity, effort, care. Whenever possible, we encourage:
Bartering
Skill-sharing
Giving freely
We believe that what’s offered in earnest will return in kind. Let’s: Reduce consumption. Recycle energy. Reuse wisdom. The Heart of RERUN
Every role matters. Whether you're racing in costume, hosting a Power Station, guiding as a bike marshal, or simply cheering on a team—your presence helps shape this experience. We’re not waiting for change to happen—
we’re running toward it, costumes flapping, bins rattling, spirits high. Let’s reimagine. Let’s regenerate. Let’s RERUN.
