Ravaged by war, South Sudan villages walk kilometers every single day for water that is dirty, and full of bacteria.
Iroquois Highschool is holding a fundraiser to help build a well for a village in South Sudan. With your help, we can solve this problem by raising money to build wells in their villages to give them access to clean, safe water.
Less than 10% of villages in South Sudan have access to basic sanitation. We learned about the problem in South Sudan after reading the book “A Long Walk to Water” written by Linda Sue Park. This tells the real life stories of Salva and Nya, who struggle to find clean water in South Sudan. Nya walks kilometers every day to bring back water to her family. At the end of the book, we find out that Salva raises money to build wells in Nya’s village using a drill that she describes as an “iron giraffe”. Salva is still raising money for villages, and runs the nonprofit www.waterforsouthsudan.org
