When duck numbers dip, many hunters want to “give the ducks a rest.” But decades of science tell a different story: hunter harvest plays only a small role in waterfowl population changes. Factors like predation on nesting hens have far greater impacts, while research shows improving breeding success is what truly boosts duck numbers.
