Black History Month | February

From the Bruner MLK Commemoration Committee, we proudly honor Black History Month—a time to reflect, remember, and recommit.

We celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of Black leaders, educators, artists, activists, and everyday changemakers who have shaped our past and continue to inspire our future. Rooted in the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded that progress is powered by unity, service, and love for humanity.

This month—and always—let us uplift Black voices, share our stories, and walk forward together in purpose.

🖤🤍 THANK YOU, BRUNSWICK! 🤍🖤
— From the Brunswick MLK Commemoration Committee

What an incredible and historic day for our community! This year’s MLK Parade was the largest in our history, with over 50 entries, and the MLK Program welcomed record-breaking attendance. To witness the growth of this celebration—and the joy it brought—was truly unforgettable.

One of the most special moments was seeing the smile on our Director Emeritus, Calvin Waye Jr. For many years, he has dreamed of seeing the MLK Parade grow to this magnitude, and yesterday, that dream was realized.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to:

Our phenomenal MC, Ashley Jackson, for bringing unmatched energy and excellence

Our Grand Marshal, Dr. John H. Martin, for his inspiring and powerful remarks

Coastal Symphony of Georgia for a truly moving and memorable performance

Our Keynote Speaker, Jason Vaughn, for delivering a message that will resonate for years to come

International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1423, for providing a delicious community meal and showing love through service

And to every volunteer, participant, sponsor, performer, organizer, law enforcement partner, and community supporter—thank you. As we shared during the program, this celebration would not be possible without each of you.

We are beyond grateful to everyone who played a role in making yesterday a historic day for the City of Brunswick. Together, we honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in unity, purpose, and love.

Thank you for showing up. Thank you for believing. Thank you for being part of history.
