⚖️ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: ID REQUIREMENTS & THE 4TH, 5TH & 6TH AMENDMENTS IN INDIAN COUNTRY ⚖️

If ICE agents or any law enforcement officer approaches you on an Indian Reservation, it is crucial to understand and invoke your constitutional rights—DO NOT waive them!

1️⃣ You are NOT required to show ID unless law enforcement has reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime.

The 4th Amendment protects you from unreasonable searches and seizures.

You do not have to provide identification unless law enforcement can clearly articulate a reasonable suspicion that you are involved in a crime.

2️⃣ You MUST invoke your 5th Amendment right to remain silent.

Silence alone is not enough—you must clearly state:
"I invoke my 5th Amendment right to remain silent."

Law enforcement cannot legally force you to answer any questions.

3️⃣ You have a 6TH Ammendment RIGHT to an attorney—Invoke it!

If law enforcement or ICE continues questioning you, clearly state:
"I invoke my right to an attorney. I will not answer any questions without legal counsel."

Once you invoke this right, do not say anything else.

4️⃣ Do NOT consent to searches.

If law enforcement asks to search you, your vehicle, or your home, you must verbally refuse unless they have a valid warrant.

Say: "I do not consent to any searches."

5️⃣ Stay Calm & Stand Firm

Being Native American does NOT waive your constitutional rights—your rights apply on and off the reservation.

Law enforcement cannot detain you without reasonable suspicion of a crime.

Record the interaction if possible and seek legal support if your rights are violated.

Our Nation has been working diligently to acquire land to benefit our people. These land acquisitions are crucial for our membership and allow us to safeguard essential natural resources, which are vital to our way of life.

To date, the Nation has accquired over 33,000 acres of land. These are lands that will remain in the hands of the Blackfeet Nation in perpetuity.

Through the Water Compact, the Blackfeet Nation is advancing crucial upgrades to the Browning Wastewater Lagoon System.

The planned enhancements replace the non-functioning ultraviolet disinfection system, replace aeration systems which help remove toxins and remove accumulated sludge from the lagoons.

These upgrades are set to have a lasting impact on our water supply.
