CUP is excited to share the date for our 2025 How We Made This event — CUP’s annual event where we reunite collaborators from past Making Policy Public projects.

🗓️ Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 6:00pm
🥫 The Old American Can Factory in Gowanus

This year, we are bringing together the team behind the project Here to Stay!

Here to Stay! was created in 2021 in collaboration between CUP, The Door (), and designer Grace Han (). The project explains a unique path to a green card called Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) for young immigrants under the age of 21.

To support these community collaborations, this How We Made This has a sliding scale ticket of $5–$15. All ticket sales directly support our work to continue making policy public!

This spring, CUP has kicked off two new after-school programs at Battery Park City School () and KAPPA International High School (.social), and two in-class programs at Design Works High School () and Forsyth Satellite Academy ().

In collaboration with CUP Teaching Artists, students combine community research and artmaking to investigate an issue impacting their communities.  Here’s what they are investigating:

> Inflation—Why is everything so expensive?

> Why are there digital deserts in the Bronx?

> What systemic factors contribute to the long-term poverty of New York residents?

> Can mainstream corporations meaningfully support social movements in NYC?

Each project will end with a final presentation where the students present what they learned and debut an original publication or short film they can use to teach others about local issues.

In 2024, CUP collaborated with students at public schools across New York City. To the teachers, administrators, community members, and young people we worked with—thank you for bringing amazing curiosity and creativity to our in-school and after-school civic engagement projects.

We’re especially thankful to students from: Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School, Bronx School of Law, Government and Justice (), and Red Hook Community Justice Center ().
