excerpt of reflecting on her creation process during the DCC screening of Batey y Macorix: Senderos de Carbon/Carbon Pathways ⚡️

Video Description: An orange square with white text at the top that says” excerpt from DCC Repertory Screening Series Sita Frederick:” and the DCC logo in the lower right corner with text that reads “I was drawing on all of the diasporic dances that move through my body. It’s not natural for me to say like “I’m just going to make a dance about this and it’s only going to be limited to this.” So like the capoeira stuff that you see referenced in there.. I mean there’s so much in there. Honestly, sometimes I struggle talking about process. What is that mix? How do I make it more mixed? Right, and yet still again acknowledge the differences, acknowledge the integrity of something and not just dilute it by mixing too much in. “ with a brown rectangle that highlights each word as it’s said.

And so something as simple as a ‘chupse’ is an aesthetic practice and an intellectual one and a judgment call and so many other things. And so recognition is huge for me that we recognize what we already have that gets devalued everyday or ignored or passed over. And so it’s very important to me that, that happens.“ with a brown rectangle that highlights each word as it’s said.
