“Without City Harvest, we would’ve waited for enough fruits to be unsellable and then call a company to haul it away by the pound. It would’ve been a complete waste,” said Neisa Yin, manager at New Son Yeng, a produce wholesaler based in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Since partnering with City Harvest last summer, they have donated more than 37,000 pounds of fresh produce. “It feels good to know we gave away fresh Asian produce to people who may not have access to [it] or have not been exposed to [it] in the past,” she said. “As the cost of living rises in this city, [we are] glad to help provide access to healthy and nutritious foods from varying cultures.”
We are so grateful to the nearly 1,600 generous food businesses that donate perfectly good excess food to City Harvest to help feed our neighbors in need. Learn more about our food rescue work at cityharvest.org/food-rescue.
