The PWR2MCA Project is fan-based initiative created on the 14th of April, 2012. The original purpose of the project was to send powerfully positive vibes to Beastie Boy MCA (we planned to send a box of our photos and messages to him on the 14th of May.) Everyone who participated made an effort to take some sort of positive action (eg
contributing to a charity / volunteer work / etc) to show MCA that we were grateful to him for teaching us about peace, love and interconnectedness. After the tragic news on May the 4th we adjusted the scope of the project. Fans united in support of Mike and Adam and chose to do something positive as a tribute to Yauch. PWR2BEASTIES! We sent a huge box to Oscilloscope Laboratories on the 31st of July - full of photos, messages, stories, artworks, mp3s, videos and lots and lots of LOVE! If you’d like to join in, it’s not too late! We’re not mailing anything else to Mike and Adam, but we’d love to hear about your Beastie-fan-story and the positive action you’ve taken. email Sarah: [email protected]

The purpose of PWR2MCA is not to put pressure on Adam Yauch. We must not put him in an awkward position, or offend him in any way. We do not want anything from him. We just want to thank him. Respectfully. We don't pretend to represent Adam. We don't know how he will feel about this. Our hope is that he appreciates the loving spirit at the centre the project. Our wish is to bring happiness to him, to ourselves, and to others through our involvement. There are many of us who feel that Adam Yauch has shaped the way we choose to behave as citizens of the planet, and many people feel the urge to let him know that. We are not taking money. We are suggesting that you donate money to a charity of your choice, or if you prefer, you can take action in another way. For example, a girl in California ran the American Cancer Society's “Relay For Life” as her way of paying tribute to Adam Yauch’s influence on her. If you would like to participate, you are welcome at our table. If not, that’s OK too. We wish you all the best. Thankyou for your interest in our project! (NOTE that we are NOT Adam Yauch and he has in no way authorised us to use his name. We respect his privacy. We would be horrified to cause offence.) HOW TO GET INVOLVED AND TAKE ACTION:

Write “PWR 2 MCA” on your hand. Make a fist. Take the photo with your other hand. Use a different background. Left-handed people aren’t allowed to participate. (Kidding.) Step 2: TAKE POSITIVE ACTION in honour of Yauch. Pick a charity that would mean something to him. Donate! MAKE A DIFFERENCE! It DOES NOT have to be much. OR – if you prefer; take action in another way. Some people aren’t comfortable with the money thing. Fair enough! So volunteer at the library, or your soup kitchen, or for Meals on Wheels. Create a beautiful artwork that your local school can display in their foyer. Plant trees. Wash you grandmother’s windows. Any random act of kindness would be perfect. Be creative! Do something, ANYTHING, that you think Yauch would appreciate. Step 3: send the photo to me (Twitter; email; etc), tell me your name (or pseudonym) and where in the world you are. Also tell me about your action. Tell me about what you’ve done! Tell me which charity you’ve supported (and; if you choose, how much $ you donated; but that’s your call. Either way is cool). Or whatever action you’ve taken. Every little thing counts. You can remain anonymous. It’s an old-school honour system, people. I’m not taking any money! This is not a scam. I’m just keeping the records. And if you’d like, you can tell me a little bit about yourself, and why you chose to participate in this project. And here’s why I’d like you to do that:
Step 4: now THIS is where it gets SUPER AWESOME. I will collect ALL photos, and collate ALL details. I’m a whiz with super-nerdy Excel spreadsheets. I will then mail ALL OF OUR PHOTOS to O-Scope, addressed to Yauch, and any messages you have for him, and also a list of ALL THE GREAT THINGS WE HAVE DONE……..........................BECAUSE WE WERE INSPIRED BY HIM. I’m mailing the photos the on the 14th of May. Imagine if a hundred people responded? Two hundred? How cool would that be? HOW big this could get? This is ADAM YAUCH we’re talking about, people. He taught us about peace and non-violence. He taught us to stand up and take action. He taught us “if it don’t hurt nobody else; then don’t be afraid to be yourself”. He taught us “with the interconnectedness that we share as one; every action we take affects everyone”. He taught us that “White Castle fries only come in one size”. (........which may seem off-topic, but I have been typing for a while and a girl gets hungry, OK?)
Let’s make sure he knows how much we care. Let’s do it NOW. PLEASE GET INVOLVED. If it’s not your thing, then that’s cool. If you DO want to help, welcome to the crew! I wanna be able to send, like, HEAPS of photos. I want to run out of ink in my printer. I want the people at the post office to think I’m insane in the membrane. I wanna send so many photos that it will “flip his wig back”. And I wanna be able to say “like, WOW, look what we did because of YOU, Adam Yauch.........WHOA! Look how many people want to show their support!”
