Midwest

Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) is committed to serving both pet and parent, finding homes for animals that were once lost, left behind and forgotten, while bringing harmony and enhancing education in our community. Midwest Animal Rescue & Services™ (MARS) is a dedicated and passionate group who rescues dogs and cats that are at risk and homeless through no fault of their own. Once in our care, these companion animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Special attention is provided for those animals that need additional time and medical care before going to a new home. MARS is committed to helping pets in need whenever possible, including all breeds and ages. MARS does not have a shelter facility for boarding. We are a foster-based rescue group that runs on the support and aid of dedicated volunteers and supporters. Our fostered pets live in homes, as family members, receiving all of the love and care they would in an adoptive home, until they are adopted. The adopters gain greater insight into the pets’ behavior and personality versus interacting with an animal who has been living in a kennel and the pet is more prepared for a loving home life. This helps produce the best match possible for the new families, resulting in a 98% success rate! Let us help you find the perfect match! MARS is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

A bag of food can be the difference between “I wish I could foster” and “I can.”

Every time we put out a call for food, litter, crates, leashes or other foster supplies — and you answer it — you’re helping break down one of the barriers to fostering.

Because not everyone who wants to foster can afford all the supplies that come with it.

Some people have the room in their home.

They have the love.
They have the time.
They WANT to help.

Their budget just doesn’t have room for one more mouth to feed.

Should that be what keeps a pet from having a foster home?

We don’t think so.

When the MARS Community keeps our supply shelves stocked, we can tell more people, “We’ve got the supplies. You just bring the love.”

And that means more foster homes.
More pets we can say yes to.
More lives saved.

Thank you, MARS Community, for answering the call again and again. ❤️

Who is MARS?

We connect people.
We connect pets.
And we help keep them together.

We’re foster homes when a pet needs somewhere safe to land.

We’re veterinary care when they need help.

We’re training when things get hard.

We’re adoption. Support. Second chances.

We’re conversations, resources and people helping people.

Because at MARS, both ends of the leash matter.

Sometimes saving a life means saying yes to a pet.

Sometimes it means helping the person holding the leash.

Usually, it takes a whole community.

That’s MARS.

Connecting people. Connecting pets.
Where All Roads Lead Home.

We received an emergency message from one of our longtime rescue partners asking for help. Their area had experienced severe flooding, leaving many animals displaced and in desperate need of safety.

Bonnie and Chase were among those already waiting in the shelter. They have been waiting patiently in boarding for a ride north, they will finally be arriving TODAY!

Now, they just need somewhere safe and loving to land. Can you open your home to Bonnie or Chase as a foster? Fostering gives these dogs a soft place to rest, decompress, and feel loved while they wait for their forever homes.

One careful step. Then another. 💙

This was Ollie just after surgery.

Slow. Sore. But moving forward.

When we first shared Ollie’s story, the fundraiser moved slowly. But this week, we shared what came after the surgery — and you showed up.

$895 has now been raised toward his $1,700 medical care goal. We’re officially more than halfway there.

Ollie is healing. His personality is coming back. He celebrated his 7th birthday. And according to his mom, he’s already dreaming about the day he can get back to chasing squirrels in the yard. 😆

MARS said yes to the care Ollie needed before we knew whether his fundraiser would cover it.

Can we help carry the rest?

HAPPY STATE FAIR DAY! 🎡

The Minnesota State Fair opens TODAY, and we’re already hungry just thinking about it. 😂

We got to spend a little time at the fair last year, but this year we want to live vicariously through YOU.

Going to the fair? Say hi! 👋

More importantly...

SHOW. US. YOUR. FOOD. 👀

Drop your State Fair food pics in the comments and tell us what’s worth the calories, the money and the wait.

At MARS, both ends of the leash matter. ❤💙

Because behind almost every pet is a person trying to do right by them.

Pets need care.

People need someone who will actually talk to them.

So we do.

Vet care. Training. Rescue. Real conversations.

We ask questions. We listen. We talk through the hard stuff. And we help however we can.

Because sometimes saving a pet means finding them a new home.

And sometimes it means helping them stay with the person they already love.

We see the pet.

We see the person.

*Both* matter.

That’s MARS. 🐾

Update 8/26/26- Due to an amazing response to her story, Missy has received multiple adoption applications!! We have put her on a pending status while we take time to review all of the applications with her foster!

Thank you all for following her story!

Adopted in 2024.
Returned in 2025.
Still waiting in 2026. 💙

Missy has made so much progress, but she’s still a shy girl who needs someone willing to give her the one thing she can’t be rushed into: trust.

She needs a patient adopter who will show her, day after day, that she is safe. That she is loved. That she isn’t going anywhere.

Missy does well with other dogs and actually needs another dog in her home to help her feel confident and learn the ropes. She’s housetrained, food-motivated and has come such a long way in foster care.

And now, her adoption fee is fully sponsored. 💙

The right home is out there. We just need to help Missy find them.

Please share her. And if you think you might be her person, apply to adopt at www.midwestanimalrescue.org.

From foster to adoption, our pets live in HOMES.

And that matters.

They wake up in a home.
They see the sun rise and set.
They have a couch to curl up on, a quiet corner to retreat to, and people who get to know who they really are.

They can decompress.
They can learn.
They can be loved.
They can be seen.

In a shelter, even a wonderful one, life is still different.

There are kennels. Noise. Strangers coming and going. Dogs barking. People reaching through fences. Very little privacy. Sometimes eating, sleeping and going potty within just a few feet of each other.

And we want to be VERY clear: shelters matter. They save lives. There is absolutely a time and a place for them.

But they should be a temporary stop.

Not a life.

We believe pets do better physically, mentally and emotionally in homes.

That doesn't mean every home is right for every pet. Or every pet is right for every home.

And that's why we have the conversations. Even the uncomfortable ones.

Because the goal isn't just to find *a* home.

It's to find the right one.

This is also why you hear us talk about foster homes. A lot.

Is fostering hard sometimes? YES.
Is saying goodbye hard? YES.
Is it always worth it? ABSOLUTELY.

If you can foster, please do. We work with your availability, your household and what you can realistically take on.

Can't foster? You can still help.

Every person you bring into this little MARS world makes our net a little wider.

And the wider we can cast it, the more lives we can save.
