Midwest

Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) is committed to serving both pet and parent, finding homes for animals that were once lost, left behind and forgotten, while bringing harmony and enhancing education in our community. Midwest Animal Rescue & Services™ (MARS) is a dedicated and passionate group who rescues dogs and cats that are at risk and homeless through no fault of their own. Once in our care, these companion animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Special attention is provided for those animals that need additional time and medical care before going to a new home. MARS is committed to helping pets in need whenever possible, including all breeds and ages. MARS does not have a shelter facility for boarding. We are a foster-based rescue group that runs on the support and aid of dedicated volunteers and supporters. Our fostered pets live in homes, as family members, receiving all of the love and care they would in an adoptive home, until they are adopted. The adopters gain greater insight into the pets’ behavior and personality versus interacting with an animal who has been living in a kennel and the pet is more prepared for a loving home life. This helps produce the best match possible for the new families, resulting in a 98% success rate! Let us help you find the perfect match! MARS is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Jimmy came to MARS in August 2025 at just 6 months old.

And guess what…

He found his forever home!!!

Jimmy is ADOPTED!

Not every journey is quick, but every journey is worth it. Jimmy waited for the right family to find him, and now his next chapter has officially begun.

Cindy and Dan, thank you so much for standing by Jimmy while he waited for his forever home. Foster homes make moments like this possible, and we are so grateful for the love, patience, and care you gave him along the way.

To Jimmy’s new family — congratulations! Thank you for choosing rescue and giving this sweet boy the home he’s been waiting for.

Jimmy, have the most amazing life. We are cheering you on every step of the way.

MARS Community, thank you for helping us help one more rescue pet find their happy ever after.

Last weekend, we asked our community for help with cat supplies.

And once again, you showed up!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated, shared, or helped spread the word. These supplies make a real difference for the cats and kittens in our care.

Every bag of food, every can, every container of litter helps.

The less MARS has to purchase, the more we can put those funds toward other mission needs — medical care, rescue work, foster support, and helping more pets find their way home.

We are so grateful for a community that keeps showing up for the animals who need us.

Thank you for sharing these supplies with us.

Good morning MARS Community! Happy Saturday! We need your help. 💙

Sir Fritz Von Woofen is still waiting in local impound.

And now Shoresy and Squirrely Dan need out too.

That’s three dogs who need homes.

MARS is foster-based, which means we can only help when a foster home says yes first. We don’t have open kennels waiting for them — we need people.

Shoresy is young, energetic, people-loving, and ready to play.

Squirrely Dan is tiny, bouncy, chatty, and will happily roll over for belly rubs once he knows you’re his person.

Fritz has been waiting 44 days. We posted him yesterday.

Shoresy and Squirrely Dan are waiting now.

They do not need to go together. They just need somewhere safe to land.

Can you foster?
Can you adopt?
Can you share?

Apply to foster: https://www.midwestanimalrescue.org/foster

Already approved to foster? Please reach out to placement.

Three dogs. Three chances to say yes.

Let’s get them out.

Who's who?
Shorsey is the Bully babe.
Squirrely Dan is the curly small dog.
Sir Fritz Von Woofen is the majestic Shepherd.

Champ is coming to MARS next weekend, and he needs a foster home ready to welcome him.

Here’s the catch: Champ is deaf.

Deaf dogs can live full, happy, wonderful lives. They just need someone willing to learn with them.

Champ needs a person who will walk this journey called life with him. Someone who will help him settle in, build trust, learn hand signals, and discover that the world can be safe, kind, and full of love.

And you won’t be doing it alone. MARS has a trainer who can help support Champ and his foster as they learn together.

He’s just a puppy. A playful, curious, deserving puppy who needs someone willing to give him a chance.

Will you help Champ?

Will you give him a chance?

Champ doesn’t need perfect.

He just needs someone willing to say, “I’ll try with you.”

Wow. Just… wow!!

We launched Leroy’s fundraiser 2 days ago, and thanks to this incredible community, he is already 85% of the way to his goal.

In less than 48 hours, 16 supporters have given $1,960 toward Leroy’s urgent eye surgery.

That means this sweet boy is so much closer to getting the specialty care he needs to protect his vision and finally live without constant eye pain.

Leroy survived being left outside in the winter. He made it to safety. He learned to trust. And now, because of you, he is getting closer to the surgery that can help him feel better.

We are so grateful.

We still have a little ways to go to fully fund his care, and every donation or share helps get him there.

Thank you for showing up for Leroy so quickly, so generously, and with so much love.

Day 43.

Fritz Von Woofen is still in the local impound.

He needs a home. A foster home would give him a safe place to land. A forever home would change everything.

MARS is foster-based, which means Fritz can’t come into rescue unless we have a home ready for him. Right now, he’s still waiting.

Can you help?

One year ago today, we launched Operation: Save MARS!

It was one of the hardest messages we have ever had to share.

After nearly 20 years of rescue, MARS was at a crossroads. We were facing the very real possibility that we could not continue forward without urgent support.

And then you showed up.

Because of this community, Operation: Save MARS! raised more than $100,000. Because of you, our doors stayed open. Animals kept receiving care. Families kept finding support. Pets who were once lost, left behind, or forgotten still had a road home.

One year later, that still takes our breath away.

You helped protect foster homes saying yes, clinic appointments that keep pets healthy, adoption matches that change entire families, and a safety net for animals who have nowhere else to go.

And because you helped keep MARS here, lives have changed in the year since.

Dogs and cats have gone home.
Fosters have opened their doors.
Medical needs have been met.
Scared animals have learned to trust.
Families have found their missing piece.

Your support helped us stay open.

Now, we are building the bridge to what comes next.

As MARS approaches 20 years of service, we are thinking not only about how to survive the hard moments, but how to build a stronger, more sustainable future for the next 20 years and beyond.

There are still so many lives to change. So many more roads home to make possible. So many more families who will need MARS to be here when life gets hard.

Because of you, we are still here to answer that call.

Thank you for believing in MARS when it mattered most.
Thank you for helping us stay open.
Thank you for being part of the bridge to the next 20 years.

Help build the next 20 years:

Robin Starveling & Snug need a foster home by 6/12!

These two 6-month-old kittens are looking for a safe place to land — ideally, a forever home, but a foster home will help them stay on track while they wait for their people.

They’re young, adorable, and still figuring out the world, which means they need someone willing to give them a little time, patience, and love.

Can you help Robin Starveling or Snug?

Foster info: https://www.midwestanimalrescue.org/foster
Robin: https://new.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/213573917
Snug: https://new.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/213573936

Even if you can’t foster, sharing helps get them in front of someone who can. 💙

Leroy survived the winter outside.
Now he needs urgent eye surgery to live without pain.

This gentle young cat was left outside in North Minneapolis during the winter. A kind neighbor noticed him and spent weeks trying to help. By the time Leroy finally made it to safety, he was scared, beat up, and unsure of people.

Most of his physical injuries healed.

Slowly, Leroy learned to trust.

But one painful problem remained.

What looked like an eye infection turned out to be something more serious. Leroy has entropion, a condition where his eyelid rolls inward and his lashes rub against his eye. Every blink can cause pain, irritation, and damage to his cornea.

Imagine having something scratch your eye over and over again.

Leroy needs specialty eye surgery to protect his vision and help him finally live without that constant pain.

He is young. He is otherwise healthy. He has already come so far.

Now we need your help getting him to surgery.

Please donate or share Leroy’s fundraiser:
https://givebutter.com/help-leroy-save-his-sight

Your gift helps cover his specialty eye care, surgery, medication, and recovery.

Let’s help Leroy save his sight. 💙
